The Reason for Botting?

thats the bull shit of the situation. i botted for reasons that did not impact the game negatively. but i was lumped in with those who did.

its funny i bot'ed to make wow more enjoyable! I have played WoW causually since the beginning, however i have never been able to give the time needed to enjoy any of the "meat & Potatoes" of the game so to speak, and honestly even with HB i have a hard time staying intrested. The only things that may save WoW at this point are A. No more paid subscription B. Custom Realms (ie Original, BC, LK) skill trees and specing. & C. Make Lvling either more quick, or more enjoyable. Basically the grind is not good anymore, and even HB as great as it is, is not even enough to keep me intrested.

I played plenty of wow in vanilla, bc and wotlk. Eventually in wotlk I got bored and started playing the auction house more than the rest of the game. Finding ways to make gold was more fun than grinding, raiding, or pvp. I remember when achievements came out I used the neutral auction house to move thousands of faction restricted pets over to each side and made piles and piles of gold. Once I had accumulated maybe half a million gold I realized I could turn this into actual cash, and at the time I was stranded in a small community with no local jobs and no way to travel 15 km to the next town to find work there. I realized I could use WoW to make some money.

I started botting and tried out various classes and strategies and found I enjoyed configuring the bots and tweaking their settings for optimal performance more enjoyable than playing the game itself. Eventually I had 12 bots going full steam generating tons of gold and making me way more cash than any job would pay at my skill level at the time. Here is an old youtube vid I made of a DK aoe farming. This ended up being my favorite botting route in wotlk:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtncxRn5pzM

Things went pretty good for about 8 months then a banwave came and I lost all my bots, but by that time I had made enough money to move out of that small shitty community and into town where I was able to find work. After that I botted pretty lightly as the price of gold started a steep decline and I found it wasn't worth the time anymore. I ended up botting D3 when demonbuddy came out and made a pile of cash on that too before D3 flopped.

I only just came back to use honorbuddy again about a month ago and had to relearn all the crap that came with cata, motp, and wod. I got a few weeks in with 2 bots but unfortunately the oll wave came and I hit a 6 month suspension. No biggie, I expect these to be banned and they were only $25 CAD keys so it wasn't a big loss.

I think ultimately I enjoy wow as an idle game (the irony of Garrisons being an idle game within WoW isn't lost on me). I like configuring the bots and sending them out into the world to see how they perform then making improvements from there. Checking in on them every few hours to see how they are doing is fun as hell. As someone else mentioned in this thread, computers are made to perform menial tasks and actually playing WoW (dailies, garrison stuff) is about as menial as you can get. I think the experience in botting is part of what made me interested in programming, which is what I am currently studying in college.

I only do leveling, grinding, or farming with bots. I'm a strong believer that they have no place in pvp and arena, where they have very negative effects on legit players. I'm not going to pretend like running the ah and tainting the economy doesn't have negative effects, but automating pvp is toilet level trolling in my books and should be removed from HB.

I started botting cause,

me and my wife had very few money, since we had 2 small children - and xmas was comming up. Its like 6-7 years ago - and I could sell 1k gold for like $12 - so I started using Glider.. I sold 500k gold and saved my xmas that year, we got food and kids got presents - it was the only time, that wife really allowed me to play WOW :) - it was amazing! Then it got harder and gold-prices went down - so I just botted to sustain my main. Grinding stuff . Now I bot to do just that, and help guildies get their achievements.

What I have learned fro botting is: Its a lonely job! - I hardly have any Bnetfriends anymore - since I dont like they can track me - and alotta ppl dont know how to handle someone who does the raid-job so well - allways being the top healer or the top dps'er. So I find it a job very silent and lonely - but I do feel I actually help..

Now being banned for 1½ years (a cruel judgement - Id rather have a permban!) on my main makes me wanna clean table - start over - either stop playng WOW or at least start fresh - new guild, new friends... Man thats lonely.. But I doubt that botting and online friends are compatible.. But ffs - thers no game out there, that fullfills what I need - and I have tryed them all!

So - with regret, Im gonna start a new account..

Actually i can buy 60k Gold with one 20 Euro Token. That is 30 Cent for 1 K Gold legal from Blizzard. So private Price must be much less to make me go on this Risk

Well - with 2 accounts botting, I made about 25k gold/day - thats 750.000 gold/month - it surely is worth it imo. And since I use guilds to hide my gold, I dint loose more than 60k gold in this banwave.. :)

If they do not catch you! Did you minus Computerusage, Electricitycosts, Internetline, Accounts broken?

blizzard use to have macros we could use but they removed them saying it was unfair...unfair to whom ? I know what you mean ..i used hb for rotation for the same reason ..im 64 ( greybush is my son ) and i can't run dungeons or raids manually ..i never was top dps...i maybe came in 7 or 10 in raids ..never abused the ecomony . I caused no one harm. I use to love wow , we started playing about a year prior to BC , while my son was in Iraq him and his buddies played wow as best as they could there and blizz wouldn't take his card there so his account was on our card ...after awhile he wanted to seperate his account from mine so he called blizz the helpful blizz employee split the accounts but, he made the ***** that the pets and mounts might not be even....the next time i logged in i had 0 pets ..i had collected over 600 pets ..i had the baby blizzard bear..i had pets i had bought at the blizz store..all gone... the next day i logged in and had a lvl 1 turkey ..next day i had a lvl 1 skunk...thats all the pets i was given ... he figured i wouldnt complain because it might jeopardize my sons account and he was right... needless to say that left a real sour taste in my mouth for blizzard. Next they water the game down til its a joke,, then underhandedly try to screw us on flying after selling all those flying mounts... now this..im done with wow and never tire of telling all who will listen of what a crappy game and company blizzard is.

Ofc thers other expenses - but if U make it up to, what it costs to rent movies to watch - its very cheap... Someone on the forum stated, that botting for him was recreational - I feel the same way - this makes me relax and have fun. The best way to save electricity is to not have a computer at all...

My honest advice ..you said you have a wife and kids? ..turn off this full time job and go make some memories with them, this is a dead end road to lonliness as you say

One of the best Ways to think about Profit ist calculate all Expenses, and what ist left Over will be Profit. 30 Cent a Kilo Gold legal from Blizzard ist really no Challenge to bot for.

Hmmm - not the reply I was hoping for.. My wife and kids gets what they need :)

I understand you .. but i disagree with making it as an income , unless you are good at it , because it can really help out sometimes .

0.30 per k to buy a token is nothing when you can sell at .25 and buy at .14 and sometimes less .

was in a guild , first raid was aq20 for me , i tanked it horribly ,, but was fun ugly tier 2.5 , and NR gear , then FR , and farming mats were longer than the raid it self ... i used to be in guilds back in tbc and was the top healer in my guild with gruul , in wotlk i was the top dps .. i stopped playing after a zillion wipe on lk ,and ofc i quit after killing him ... was fun . and i stopped .

in mop i didnt play and now in wod am strictly botting , nothing but botting , i have two pc's , and yes its recreational :D :D ///

I play PVP on one pc and 3 bots on the other . Its fun , and profitable .

and I enjoy the game in such a way . I leave bot on and hang out with my friends . come back and see the $$

Main reason I began botting was getting into high MMR Arenas multiple seasons, then getting obliterated by teams running kickbots and good CRs.

I'm not one to piss and moan though, felt it was quite a clever thing to do, so began using CRs to even the playing field. I don't bot much beyond that and never really got into full automation. I figured if you can't beat them, join them. :)

Now, truthfully, I rather enjoy it.

I began botting because leveling alts, doing dailies, weeklies, gearing and such felt like it took too much time away from other activities I would have never come so far in WoW as I have without Honorbuddy I would have probably quit long time ago because how much time everything took. I don't simply wish to focus only on WoW alone so I'm thankful for the existence of Honorbuddy. :)

This.. i like wow, but with friends, family, work, etc... it became unlikely to keep up with everything without HB.
- Using HB for all those boring nonsens things, such as dailies.

As a newebie to the idea of botting, and still looking for a good choice in bot, I'm only really interested due to the fact that doing same quest over and over for each alt is boring as hell. I'm not sure what CR's are, but it's something that I might have to check out. But the main reason I'd bot would to be able to get past the boring crap and go into the fun stuff.

Started at release and no break till mid of wrath. My guild disbanded short before PDK came out and I thought "What the hell is this?". Dont want to search a new guild and take a long break till end of cata. OC blizz nudged me with a few free 7 days trials but I wanted to play another class and had to level...and it was like godmode. Fun for an hour or two and than its only boring as hell. After the second trial I decided if I ever came back I would use a level bot to get rid of the boring stuff. A friend told me about pirox, but I choose HB and did some really crazy stuff with a trash account.
Leveling/Questing 20 hours while reading or watching tv or sleep^^, geared the toon in an alterac weekend 24 hours, disconnect, log in and bot for another 24 hours 100% AFK. Leveling another toon from 81 to 85 with gathering in ... that underwater zone..NO BAN.
Than I started with my main short of release of Mists and botted since the ban in May this year round about 4 years with HB with no ban. I decided only to play wow with a bot getting me rid of the boring stuff. Machines and programs are made for that. And I´m sure blizz didnt learned their lesson and again in Legion will be a lot of boring stuff to do. Tedious, easy, repeatable. If I´ll come back in Legion than it will be with a bot, but neither I know if coming back nor which bot atm. ;)

@beatlybot: CR is combat rotation. Typically this is mentioned if you are not afk and control the movement/cd´s/kicks etc. OC you need a CR if you fight with that char. Singular, TuanHA, Millz...

My thing was Archaelogy and wanting the mounts and stuff. Back when :p

After that, I tried a combat routine, mostly to handle the pet stuff for green fire quest. I saw it preformed well and tried to purchase Millz's routine, which was one of the authors of the greenfire routine I believe. It was a little better at playing Warlock than I. So, I started using it more and more, and for other classes as well.
