By following the previous waypoints you can usually get out of the area in which the character is stuck... imagine a fence, if the bot can't get over this method would then be used which goes back to the previous waypoint and can then continue on.
And for some reason when the bot unstucks in the same place, he will do that for many hours because he does not record what works and then utilizes that... for example it will go into the same tree again and again and again, it will not learn by doing or take what it knows and saves that information as a known unstuck path and take that path if the bot keeps getting stuck in that exact area.
