There is a better alternative: GIT.

Why? Here are some reasons:
  • Most Git hosts also provide an issue list, watch lists, wikis
  • Better collaboration
  • Only creates one hidden folder, in the root path, as opposed to SVN which reates one for every folder your project has
  • It's way faster and uses less disk space
  • As easy to setup as SVN, perhaps even easier

Free Git hosts:
  • Bitbucket - Unlimited public repos, unlimited private repos(with up to 5 users), issue tracker, watch list, pull requests
  • GitHub - Unlimited public repos, issues tracker, watch list, pull requests

How to get started as a developer? Easy! Here are some awesome tutorials to get you started:

FAQ
Andrew: Yo, what hosting should I choose? Bitbucket or Github?
Go with whatever you want bro, I prefer Bitbucket because it also allows free private repositories.

Jimmy: I'm not a developer, I don't care about that stuff! SVN used to be so easy, all I had to do was install Tortoise SVN! WAAAH!
Well Jimmy, do not fret! All you have to do is Install TortoiseGit and you're good to go!

Jimmy: I've installed TortoiseGit, what now, how can I download stuff?! QQ!
Pretty much as you did with TortoiseSVN. Open the folder where you want your stuff downloaded, right click, Git Clone, enter URL, pres OK! You can even clone from a SVN repo(yes, that's how awesome GIT is).

Jimmy: Alright, I've downloaded mah profiles, how do I updated them?
Easy! Right click, Git Sync. Done.
