Just had this happen. Is related to Mrfishit or GB/HB. That is only thing that is run on the computer and has ever been run on the computer. Multiple security layers with no key logger installed. Please check and see if there is a possible security hole that could be used for this purpose. (Not accusing you guys, just need to check all possibilities.)

The account had not been logged on in 6 months until started leveling it with HB to use to farm. It had never used Fishing buddy on this account.

I use other accounts on the same machine that have no problems. (The other accounts all have authenticator though.)

Me personally, I usually don't even start HB/GB until I have already logged into my account and am in game, so not exactly sure how this could happen. Sorry about your loss. :(

Well if it was HB/GB then it would have been us all not one. Not heard anyone else having this happen. MtFishit i used on my main and never had a problem, Could be that somebody managed to hack your account. Its a nightmare if it happens, not had it happen to me as of yet but I know of a load of people it has happened to.

Considering they're are people on here that probably make x100 more gold than you, don't you think other accounts will have security related issues also? So obviously that cuts out HB/GBo out othe equation.

I also had my account compromised yesterday. The only 3rd party program I use is HB, so I'm finding it hard to believe that this is just a "coincidence".

Possible one of the plug-ins may be to blame?

I'm having a hard time contacting Blizzard to find out what's going on. But I think the HB staff should at least look into this.

yes.. plugins is a big possbility as they're not made by the devs themselves but completely third party.

list all the plugins you've got installed and we can email the list to bossland.

OP if you can do the same that would be great.

I dont think its HB, if it was then they would be hitting the people with a lot more gold and stuff than what others have, Could just be that your two of the unlucky people. I've seen accounts being hacked and people not using anything on their machine other than wow.

if you've cruised a gold selling website that could be the culprit... thats why i ONLY cruise gold selling websites on my laptop that has max security and i do NOT run wow on that laptop. its for torrents/gold selling (sites/yahoo)/music only!

Yeah, not that my knowledge is that hot with computer shizzle but surely you dont need to run a .exe to get a keylogger. Any number of sites could be to blame i would think.....watch much pr0n?

I have cruised some gold selling sites, but I can't see how that would compromise my account information. Any tips/tricks on identifying a possible keylogger? I have up to date anti-virus (AVG), malware detection (Ad-Aware, Spybot, Windows Defender) and browser (Firefox 3.5.8).

And this has ONLY happened to my botting account. I have other accounts which I do not bot on and they are fine.

Did you buy the botting account from an account seller online or is this an account you levelled yourself?

You got hacked, keylogged, brute forced, or you gave your account info to someone else and they exploited you. Guarantee it.

Considering I don't run spybot/ad-aware/windows defender or antivirus on my computer and I've never been hacked/exploited/whatever.

I do run them occasionally as a manual check to make sure that I'm still clean, but other than a few tracking cookies I never get anything. If you don't do stupid things you won't get exploited. I don't care how much you trust your friend/sibling/parent whatever. They can and will exploit you.

All leveled myself and the account is in my name, I've had the account for years but it was inactive. I re-activated it when I bought HB and have been leveling it solely using HB.

There was only about 1200g and some loot (skins, herbs, etc.) so I'm not too concerned about losing the stuff. I just want to know how I got hacked and prevent it from happening in the future.

I am very safe with my passwords, have never shared my information with anyone and do not download anything via bit torrent, etc.

I bet spending the holidays with you is a blast.

I'd stopped playing WoW last year (account inactive for ~4 months) when I got an email notice that my account password had been changed. Luckily they didn't add an authenticator, so I changed the password, but it was too late, my account had been hacked ~8 hours prior and everything was gone buy 1 toon standing in the bonescythes in scholazar botting.

On the bright side, about 5 days later Blizz restored everything (my toons too) and I started playing/botting again! Yay for hackers!

Also, it should be noted that AVG is like the "no brand name" version of Anti-Virus. It doesn't catch everything, and it's real-time protection is a bit lackluster. This goes double for the free version, so if you were using that one it would be like trying to stop a bullet with aluminum foil. Bottom-line: no one here knows why or how you got hacked and we could all throw theories at you until the cows come home, but it won't change anything.

I'm sorry, truly. It's happened to me before, so I sympathize. Get with Blizzard and see what you can do to get your stuff back is all I can say. It seem like you want HB/GB to be the reason you lost your account and I don't believe it is. But best of luck to you. :)

No, I would really prefer that not to be the case. I've grown to like HB quite a bit, and have been active in the community here. That's simply the only thing that I've used recently which would be considered a "risk". And again, it seems odd to me that my botting account is hacked and my others are not.

I understand nobody knows why it happened, I'm simply looking for suggestions to prevent it from happening again in the future. Are there specific anti-virus programs that you would recommend? What about detecting keyloggers, or malicious web code?

There are some slightly better AV programs out there. For the best results it's recommended to have more than one installed, though that begins to tax slower systems by using a lot of resources. Avast is a good free AV. Better would be to pay for a full security suite like McAfee or Kaspersky.

Another good idea it to install The NoScript Add-on for firefox and use it religiously. Make no exceptions. If you need javascript or flash enabled then you probably should use another computer that you don't play wow on.

Think about adding another firewall program like Zone Alarm or something else. Windows Firewall leaves a lot to be desired. You can also use a hardware firewall by routing your internet through another computer or a router. Never use wireless connections to play wow. Wireless is unbelievably easy to crack nowadays.

There are probably a ton of other steps you can take to improve security, but those are what I can think of off the top of my head. Hope it helps.

I always have noscript installed on my firefox.
http://noscript.net/
Best to be safe.

Quick overview for those that havent heard of it.

"When you install NoScript, JavaScript, Java, Flash Silverlight and other executable contents are blocked by default. You will be able to allow JavaScript/Java/... execution (scripts from now on) selectively, on the sites you trust. You can allow a site to run scripts temporarily, if you're just surfing randomly, or permanently when you visit it often and you really trust it. This means that NoScript learns from your own browser habits and tends to disappear in the background after a while, but it promptly comes back to save your day if you stumble upon a malicious web page."
