some thoughts about safer acccounts / botting

I red through the forum the last days, because i used pirox and now want to use HB.

I use a prxy for HB, because i live in germany.

Me and my roommate play wow and i'll start to bot on a seperate account.
I'll only use one bot until i'm familiar with HB. Later I'll maybe use up to 3 bots or shifting some accounts, because botting 24/7 with one account is too riskful.

I red many things about IP Bans and stuff like that, so i want to know:

1. Would it be better to use the prxy for my botting account, to avoid a IP BAN for our main accounts ?

2. Is there any use of using a Virtual Machine ? (because sometimes i want to bot AND play)

3. Is it safer to grind or to quest ?

4. What plugins would you recommend ? I use MIR2, Talented, AutoEquip and Anti-Drown

And i would appreciate additional hints for my account security ;D

Thanks in advantage!

1. Speculative and is purely a question on limitations * will come back to this.
2. Once again, speculative, there are some users who deign the use of VM allowing both IP/MAC and are still banned based on limitations. *
3. Yes but it is a matter of limitations ... and understanding.
4. The default plugins should be used for grinding (Talanted, Refresh, Quest helper, AutoEquip (unless a dk starting out), Anti Drown)
4. I would suggest using the following:
  • AlwaysHere - self explainatory
  • BuddyCon2 - a monitoring tool that is a must have; there are several "out there"
  • LogMeOut - many different options; I use it mainly for environment hiccups

Limitations:
A bot makes "doing things" much easier through the, obvious, means of automation. What many botters fail to understand is that through automation, certain events/actions can be recognized. There are several things that a "normal" player (a non botter) would not do; the main one of these is playtime in a singular task

examples:
  • a normal player would not grind a single instance, area, zone for MULTIPLE HOURS on end
  • a normal player would not quest for days on end with no matter of break or rest
  • a normal player would not grind mats for set durations and then flood the auction house (a normal player would stockpile and sell in increments)
  • a normal player THINKS LIKE A NORMAL PERSON; ie. doing tasks are tedious and, unless over zealous, typically are only accomplished when excessively bored

Player reports are the #1 reason for bans; Blizzard does a decent job of policing itself but through the active eyes of players, your peers, they are better to enforce their policies. When you bot, despite where your IP or Mac Address originates, your #1 priority is the MENTALITY by which you bot. There are multiple threads that focus on the IP/MAC/VM topic.

Thank you for your detailed answer!

Your point with limitations is obvious to me, thats the reason why i play to shift the accounts, so that every single account will be on for 4-6h/day.

But what's if blizz catch one acc ? Will they check my IP and maybe ban all accs ?

I created the two test accounts from different IPs, with diffrent contact datas and mail accounts which were created from diffrent IPs.

EDIT: And for 3. i wanted to know which way is safer to lvl :)

There have been discussion toward this as well; in the past, also in my past personally, having multiple accounts with separate idents did little.
I'll give an example to illustrate this and hope that the depiction can give scenario advice over written conjecture.

  • 1 Grind, 1 AH, 1 Bank, 5 Dungeon (bots).
  • The grind/dungeon are set to interval logins; there is a degree of randomization while set to a specific pattern. Each bot has a unique profile and the beginning of a personality.
  • The AH and Banker are set to specific intervals but, as result of their function, are both more rapid and extended than the previous two.
A wave goes out (banning spree by the hammer in the sky, Blizzard).
  • 1 Grind and 1 AH toon are online when the wave hits; they are separate accounts, separate identities (mac/ip), neither are paid with the same paypal or card; there is no "direct" link; not even guild.
  • Grind 1 is banned immediately on first wave; catching the tail end, AH logs in 45 minutes later and is banned.
  • Hours afterwards Banker and Dungeon team login - no ban
  • Dungeon team was hauled for a series of hours for paranoia stance
  • Banker proceeded as usual though outwardly talkative (manual).

There have been discussion that it doesn't "matter" about IP/MAC manipulation. The overall understanding is that "we do not know" how Blizzard monitors/interacts and interprets bot connections. What it boils down to is who is online, and who isn't online, when the wave goes out. There are still yet, to make it even more confusing, those who escape the hammer while others have their coffins, figuratively, nailed shut.

3. Questing is always safer than grinding.

Sounds like blizz is learning everyday like the hb com ;D

so it sounds rly like it's a kind of "behavior" linked banning and nothing like a IP/MAC-based banning.
