Was in the RMT business for 5+ years before I sold. Used to farm but quit about a year ago and sold my original site--was no longer cost effective for the time I put in plus some bad luck with ban waves. Nice offer for my business made it an easy choice.
For those interested in farming for $$$, just wanted to go over the "whole" picture.
People always advertise the gross they made. What no one actually posts is their net.
Simple example
Read a post someone made $125(125k gold at $1 per k lol. Think $1/k is bad. Expect that to drop to half that very soon) in a week so we'll use that as an example.
Guessing that was his first sale with him being excited which is terrific
Lets take that number and go from there
$125 in 7 days
Expenses
.75 to $1.00 Electricity to run that computer/display. Id guess between .5 to $1.00.
$64.00 Start up cost to buy game(with Blizz’s sale, its $64. Normal cost $144)
Time card Time card-wont count. First 30 days free. Normally $30 for 60 days
So bottom line.
$125
-$25.00 taxes **IF* in the US and yearly income over $9k
-$5.00 7 days electricity—we’ll say $5
- $??.?? GB cost-someone needs to add that in as I dont know the cost and Im too lazy to look it up
-$64.00 account with all expansions
$31.00 for a full week which comes to $4.43/day less GB cost
Big one--Taxes. Dont know about other countries but in the US, if youre under 65 and your TOTAL income in a year is over 9k, you must claim that income and file taxes. Paypal reports all activity to the IRS now. They had a big notice about it. Taxes are around 20%. Don’t pay taxes and they find out, IRS will fine you, put leans on anything you own and start garnishing your wages.
With cost of herb/mines dropping quick, expect avg gold inc per day as well as profit to get cut in half. As with any new expansion, make alot for the first month or so before costs of items normalize. If items tend to sell more then the previous avg, gold cost will lower to reflect that hence my prediction of prices dropping below $.50 per k very soon.
Just giving everyone a bigger picture—posting what you made is great and all but if you do, need to figure in all the costs. Didnt bother with the extra cost if you buy a botting comp. People need to make sure they figure everything in before they decide if RMT is something they want to do/try.
Me personally, I got tired of worrying about possible bans,having to buy new accounts, time card expenses, computer repairs, lvling new accounts, etc. It wasn’t worth it for me anymore with the time i put in versus the income.
