See Topic name.
Can anyone confirm it?

When i started my wow.exe there was a new file created, calles scan.dll.new

Maybe a warden update? Or only a new Hardware-Scan?

Isn't warden related as far as i know it scan for programms running at your pc etc like a AV. But wait for admin. Information about your hardware too i believe.

This file is used occasionally to check the hardware specifications on your computer to know what types of computers our customers are using.

They do not check for personal information, they are simply looking for CPU speed, the amount of RAM and the Video card you are and similar non-personal information

Thats the blizz explanation...
tbh idk how dangerous can be

I didn't get notes either, but you should see a patch.html or patch.txt in your wow folder that has the notes in it.

nope! No new file called scann.dll.new :-D

"Once you start the game, scan.dll is placed in your wow root, replacing your existing scan.dll. Next time you run WoW, this new scan.dll runs. If you delete scan.dll, it can not run when you start WoW, but the client does try to copy the new scan.dll to your directory"

from Blizz forums

I dont like the fact that you guys scan our computers at all. Why would you care what system or cpu we are using, that should be removed right away. I know since we log onto your server when we bot you could do anything you want as far as getting any info from us but it dont make it right

I think you are misunderstanding Tony's response. He was quoting from the Blizzard forums. Blizzard scans your PC, not HB.

Are you talking to blizzard or HB?

Thanks Tony, but this can?t be correct. If it would be so, then the scan.dll should be updated or renew on every start of wow.exe. But my scann.dll is from beginning january...?

But after all. Nothing happened here. My scan.dll wasnt updated... my fault...

/close :-D

That would be blizzard.

It will only be replaced if there is a new version of the file AFAIK.

The data is used to make updates for the game and see on average how system heavy the game can be. If you're afraid then open it in notepad and corrupt it to the max, make it read-only, after it starts up corrupt scan.dll.new and then make it read-only.
