Just wanted to stop by and say hello and tell you guys a bit about myself. I've been looking for a new project that I could work on for quite a while now and exilebuddy looks promising!

In the past I've worked on projects for a Diablo 2 bot. When I started 4 years ago I had zero programming experience, since then I've became fluent in javascript which led me to learn other web languages. Now since D2 is basically dead I've been looking for a similar way to expand my programming knowledge. Although I have basically no C# experience at this point, I've spend the last few days reading tutorials and going through the buddy files and it doesn't seem like it will take TOO long to get the hang of.

I believe that learning off experienced programmers is a huge key for someone like me that has no real life experience in the coding field (I'm a plumber by trade) and when I saw pushedx was a dev for exilebuddy I knew I had to chose this path of exile bot! I remembering reading a lot of his work on EON where he went by a different alias and he seems like a guy that knows his shit.

tl;dr Sup guys.

Welcome! :)

The forums are pretty slow right now, as a lot of people are waiting for the big 1.2 update coming mid-August or just waiting for more features to be added to the Beta. Since there is a 1.1.5 update coming out tomorrow, there'll be some downtime, but hopefully not too much will change.

When it comes to learning programming, having something practical to work towards is definitely the way to learn and still have fun. You should use the Beta version to start messing with things, as the Release is currently for legacy support until it's fully replaced. The Guides section contains a few filled out guides (minor updates are needed for the latest changes), but most of the content is still pending and will be added somewhat soon over the next few weeks.

Programming and learning how to turn your ideas into reality is certainly a time consuming and lengthy process, but it's definitely worth it if you are willing to stick to it. I think learning C# is a solid choice if you don't already know it, and playing around with bots/routines is certainly a practical application of using that knowledge to expand your skills. Path of Exile is a pretty quirky game, but if it interests you, it's certainly worth using as a means to learn and do things for fun, and then maybe for profit! When I first started out working on this project a year ago with Apoc, I didn't know any of the the things I do now when it comes to using C# to write bots and putting things together. It's been an amazing experience for me so far, and the more time I spend working on this stuff and trying to make things better, the more I learn.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask, we'll try to get you pointed in the right direction as soon as possible, but with so much going on right now with the Beta rewrite and trying to make sure everything is ready before the 1.2 patch hits, we might not always be able to give a fast reply, but we'll try our best. ;)

Thanks. :)

Yeah for sure. Being able to apply the things I was learning to Diablo was defiantly the reason I stuck with it. Okay I'll download the beta and read up on that.

That's awesome to hear. Is that the same Apoc from EON/BH as well?

Cheers, I understand it's a pretty small team at the moment and I'm not impatient. :D

[e] Is there some sort of IRC channel or something that you guys hang out in?

Oh BH. lol, the diablo II days, and the dupes I had posted, WPE was the shit lol.
