First, let me give you a little backstory. I've raided mostly on my hunter since late BC. I was "average". I did enough to make the raid leader happy, prove that I was adequate dps, bosses died, we got loot, log off and be happy. I'm an older player, and disabled as well. I physically cannot sit at my computer grinding for hours for anything. I was happy enough raiding 6-7 hours a week...until....
WoD came out, and with it, I switched guilds. The GM and I have been friends for a long time. It became apparent pretty early on that my dps was lackluster. We were taking bosses down in Heroic Highmaul, but I was always at the bottom of the meter. Enter BRF...my GM had a talk with me about 2 weeks ago, went into in-depth analysis of my warcraft logs, and told me I was quite simply not mashing enough buttons, nor was I mashing them fast enough. Due to my various disabilities, I play with a Razer Naga, so I was mashing the keypad on the side of the mouse with my thumb. Apparently not good enough.
Last week, he told me that Thursday was my last chance, or I'd be moved off the Heroic team and to the Flex (Normal) team on a different night. It hit me like a ton of bricks. I knew something had to change NOW. I'd bought Honorbuddy awhile back to use for grinding ore & herbs, but I certainly didn't know you could use it for raiding. I was hesitant, but trialed the YRB profile. It was easy to set up, didn't take much configuration or changes to HB on my end.
Thursday raid approached. I didn't pay much attention to Skada while clearing trash, because I always faired well on that anyway. I forced myself not to look at the meter until the first boss was down. After we got him down quite easily, I hear my GM/RL over Vent "<name> WOW what did you do???" I was startled, and looked at the meter. 2nd in dps out of 10 total. Um, surely I couldn't tell him I botted that, so I laughed it off and said "I guess that practice helped!" We went 7/10 heroic that night, with my dps close to the top on every fight, and 3rd highest overall.
He asked me privately "Seriously, what did you do? Keep it up!" I finally told him on our group chat that I smoked a particular herb and was more calm and relaxed that night, and laughingly said "I guess <herb> is a dps boost!"
I was then informed that as long as I kept it up, my spot on the team was secure. A great wave of relief washed over me. I was also pretty proud of the fact that I managed to mash a few extra buttons in between the YRB routine to boost my dps even further.
The next day, I came back to the buddy store and bought the full version of the routine. I'm looking forward to raid this Tuesday, and blowing up the charts again! The only work required of me is just to dodge stuff and stay alive, let the bot handle the rest!
Thank you to the developers of HB and the YRB routine for being my sanity saver!
