Bots/CC/Plugin/Profiles Releases
  1. Default CC/Plugins/Profiles are free to use - You can modify, copy code from, etc, all you want. If only simple changes have been made, it must be noted.

  2. Unless otherwise stated, any content posted in The Buddy Forum (e.g., Bots, Combat Routines, Plugins, Profiles, etc) is released under a Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 4.0 license. If you re-use someone's code, its fine but you must give them full credit for their code.

  3. Unless otherwise stated, code released by Bossland GmbH as part of the Buddy product is under a dual license:
    • If you release your product exclusively through the Buddy Store, then Bossland GmbH grants you a Creative Commons CC BY-SA 4.0 license.
This license is revoked if the product is removed from the Buddy Store, or made available in a non-Buddy Store venue.
If you submit products to the store under these terms, Bossland GmbH expects you to have made a 'good faith' effort to improve the product. Taking Bossland GmbH code, making a couple of tweaks and submitting it to the store for sale will not be considered acceptable. The decision of whether a 'good faith' effort has been made to improve the code lies solely in the hands of the Bossland GmbH code reviewers.

    • All other uses of Bossland GmbH code is made available under a Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 4.0 license.
  4. Bugfixes of Bots/CC/Plugins/Profiles developed by 3rd parties (Bots/CC/Plugin/Profiles developers), and the like should stay in the thread where it was released.

  5. Whatever work you make available must be hosted from the local BosslandGmbH Forums.
This means your work must be available in the form of a .zip download (the forum does not support other compressed formats). Downloads available exclusively from third-party sites are not acceptable.
If you wish to make your work available from a Subversion (or other revision-controlled) repository, that is an acceptable alternate distribution mechanism--but the reasonably up-to-date .zip file must still be provided.

  6. If using code from another CC, you must give credit for the code. No questions asked. [Simple snippets, such as object searches, simple Lua calls, etc, may be excluded]

  7. If you release your 'product' as 'free to use and abuse', you may not change your mind later when it suits you to. If you wish to change the 'license' on it, please create a new release thread.

  8. You may NOT disallow users from using your Bots/CC/Plugin/Profiles. Under no circumstances are you allowed to 'ban' users from your work. If you don't want them using it, don't release it.

  9. It is up to the author to provide support for their product. The 'Buddy Staff' are in no way responsible for support 3rd party CCs/Plugins.

  10. The author has a right to remove his/her work from the forum, for any reason, at any time.

  11. CCs/Plugins are NOT to be 'locked into' a specific version of HB. (Exceptions being required API changes, and the like.)

  12. Collecting personal information is strictly prohibited, without prior warning that such information is being collected. (The user must be aware that the information is being taken)

Closed Source Releases
  1. BosslandGmbH no longer allows closed-source releases.

  2. Your work may not contain an EXE or DLL file (or any compressed file or source-control repository) containing such.

  3. An exception to the above rule applies for core HB developers releasing products such as profile editors, reloggers, etc. You should be able to recognize the names of such staff members: Apoc, Raphus, Highvoltz, Mastahg, etc. Such contributions by the core HB developers are approved by the BosslandGmbH management before being made available to the Community.
If you believe a non-staff member has made an EXE or DLL available, please report the post and it will be looked into immediately. Such things represent a clear and present danger to the BosslandGmbH Community.
Obviously, BosslandGmbH does not have control over what is offered on third-party websites. This is why advertising or linking to such third-party websites is disallowed. Once again to be clear, if you make a source-repository available from a third-party site, it may not contain an EXE or DLL either directly or indirectly. If you wish to make such available, you may not link to it from the BosslandGmbH forums.

Access to 'Test' builds of HB/GB
  1. This is entirely up to the 'Buddy Staff'. Requesting, annoying or otherwise trying to get a build will not be tolerated, and may end up in a forum suspension.

  2. Asking those who have received test builds is prohibited. If the staff decides you should have a test build, you'll be told about it.

All of the above rules are subject to change at any time.

EDIT April 23 2012:
To encourage development of new projects and re-use of existing code that is out there, we are treating all CC/Plugins as being under the BSD licenses - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. What this means is that anyone can re-use code or a project provided the original developer is given full credit.

This applies to profiles as well. Overrides and locations may be used from other authors profiles as a basis for a new profile if that profile benefits the users.

EDIT 7-Feb-2015:
With the introduction of the Buddy Store, we wish to continue encouraging the Community to generate free content without their work being used in ways which the original author does not desire. With that in mind, we are making these changes regarding the content posted to our forum:

  • Developers are free to chose any open source license of their liking.
The one constraint is the license must be one recognized by Creative Commons or OpenSource.org. We strongly suggest developers make their work available using the Creative Commons BY-NC-S v4.0 license (preferred), or the GPLv3. However, any license recognized by Creative Commons or OpenSource.org will be acceptable.
For this to apply, the developer must explicitly call out the license (and include a hyperlink to it) in the original post where the product is made available.

"What happens if I want to use a license other than those from Creative Commons or OpenSource.org?"
You are certainly free to do this, but do not post such content on the Buddy Forums.

  • For content that has no explicit license called out in the first post, the author implicitly agrees that the content is being released under the terms of the Creative Commons BY-NC-SA v4.0 license.

"What happens to existing content that was assumed to be protected with a BSD-style license?"
That content is now assumed to be protected by a Creative Commons BY-NC-SA v4.0 license
Going forward, we will assume that all content in the forum that does not have an explicit license is protected under the Creative Commons BY-NC-SA v4.0 license. We will apply this new 'default' license, even if the material was previously released with the "BSD license" understanding. If the original author prefers another license, he must explicitly call out the terms in the first post of the offering as stated above.
