Ret Paladin PVE Raiding Routine Comparison

I wanted to see if it was worth investing in one of the other paid routines for Ret Paladin since I already have Tuanha paid.

Did some quick PVE testing just now against a 102 damage raid dummy (from behind, not sure position matters on dummies though) for the 4 Ret Paladin routines I have access to.

I'm sure numbers will change in the future. This data is just relevant to the date of this posting.

Summary: If you don't have a paid routine then Tuanha is still on top (for me at least)

Righteous is a viable alternative.

Singular's performance is good enough for most people.

Hazzpaladin currently not worth investing in.

Conditions:
* All fights were 6 minutes 03 seconds (3 full cycles of Avenging Wrath, not long enough for precise testing but long enough to see if a specific profile pulled far away from others)
(last few seconds of Censure and Execution Sentence not included in figures after main combat)
* All routines were set to defaults for priority except for making sure the routine controlled Avenging Wrath and Seal of Truth was 100% active
* +200 Strength Flask
* No Pots were used
* Bot base used: Enyo with lock set at 30fps with no plugins
* Bot restarted between each run
* Client-to-Server network latency around 70ms
* Older generation video card, lots of system ram, 4GHz OC'ed quad-core Intel CPU

Character Stats/gear:
* Item Level: 669
... 690 ring (ie, proc)
... 676 Tectus' Beating Heart
... 670 Bottle of Infesting Spores
... Mark of the Shattered Hand
* Self buffed stats w/Kings and +75 food:
... Strength: 4809
... Crit: 12.62%
... Mastery: 43.51%
... Multistrike: 4.86%
... Versatility: 8.45%

Talents
2/1/3/3/2/3/3

Major Glyphs
Double Jeapordy
Harsh Words
Word of Glory

DPS rankings

(note: due to short length and single samplings, only a large % difference should even be considered as significant, RNG can't be helped without a lot more effort)

For comparisons to other DPS measurements:

* SimDPS shows this setup as having 21.7K DPS in a Patchwerk style fight with similar buffs/setup and 50ms latency. 2 of the routines equal or outperform SimDPS theoretical max. Singular matches it pretty closely.

* Spamming a keyboard macro that autosmashes the following priority provides 17.2K avg DPS
... Avenging Wrath, Final Verdict, Execution Sentence, Hammer of Wrath, Exorcism, Crusader Strike, Judgment, Divine Storm
... (without attempting to optimize for abilities about to come off GCD or pooling Holy Power, just a dumb macro)

Honorbuddy Routine DPS

* Tuanha (paid) - Best performance, just slightly better than Singular. Good customization with the ability to load various profiles on the fly with hotkeys.

Hardlock ... 21.5K avg (42.0K burst)
Softlock ... 21.6K avg (42.0K burst)

Note: I have no idea what Tuanha's free routine performance is like as I'm not sure what is left out

* Righteous (trial) - Good performance. Counting RNG possibilities it is within a tiny fraction of Tuanha and possibly slightly better. RNG makes me guess these two perform basically identically so if you have one you have little need for the other. Customization compared to Tuanha is still lacking but better for some things than Singular.

Hardlock ... 20.0K avg (41.2K burst)
Softlock ... 22.1K avg (35.8K burst)

* Singular - Default routine, everyone has it, and it performs fine. Not perfectly, and it doesn't have some of the tweaking available to other routines, but not a bad choice for free.

Hardlock ... 21.0K avg (39.9K burst)
Softlock ... 20.5K avg (38.2K burst)

* Hazzpaladin (trial) - by far the worst, sometimes waiting 2 full GCDs and still skipping Divine Storm, including free DS procs, even when AOE was enabled with just 1 target and disabling Hammer of the Righteous to mimic a Single target + Divine Storm combination ... this is a shame since the UI for Hazzpaladin made me feel that it would be the best for optimizing custom priorities on holy power pooling. Not significantly better than letting AutoHotKey run a mash-mash-mash macro.

Hardlock ... 17.7K avg (35.9K burst)
Softlock ... 17.8L avg (35.5K burst)

Note that I didn't spend much time tweaking settings. My goal was to see how they perform with close to default tuning. It might be that Hazzpaladin can be setup better to get similar numbers to the others. But unless it outperforms significantly I have no incentive to switch so for now my testing is done.

I think Tuanha and Righteous are likely already getting close to the max a profile can provide in basic rotation. And that is all I'm using the bot for. I do all my targetting, self-healing, buffs/hands/etc while raiding. I'm just using the bot to mash buttons for me and pool holy power.

Everyone has different needs. I'm not here to bash any particular routine (I actually had hoped Hazzpaladin would come out well, I was considering buying based on the UI). I just figured other folks might appreciate some of the info.

PS. I changed enough of my numbers to protect my account, including some stat modification, but the basic numbers and performance are accurate. What I listed is close enough to my toon for you to be able to re-SimDPS it to check things out.

One last note ... I used a combat log parser to analyze the DPS numbers. I don't use Skada or Recount. And as mentioned obscurely in the top post I removed all data from my logs (I allowed combat to go randomly longer than 6:03 to help obscure my testing if someone @ Blizz happens on this post that could investigate) that went past 6:03 in each fight. This means ticks of Censure, Mark of the Shattered Hand, etc that would have trailed off if I had just stopped combat and lowered DPS were not counted in the numbers. Avenging Wrath was used at the beginning of each fight and went through 3 full cycles without being used a 4th time.

Thanks for the numbers Jerf. I was meaning to see the same thing with my pally. Any chance you have YRB's to try?

Awesome job Jerf! I'd be curious to see how certain non-honorbuddy routines performed in your lab, as ret paladins are one of the few class/spec combos I've seen where the HB community has thus far failed me.
