So its a simple question with a not so simple answer, my flash usb drive was in my laptop, girlfriend stretched her legs and it fell on the floor snapping the usb card in two, the undamaged part is the black piece *soldered onto the green board* but the green board in front of it is snapped completely in two, is it even viable to take to stapes or geeksquad to have fixed? it has about 130 hours of college homework on it unsaved anywhere else so its worth the price.... heres a depection to the best of my ability

So from left to right, left is the silver usb slot, green is the green circut board, and black is the soldered on chip piece, the red slash is where is broken completely in two, is it viable to fix? or is it 100% done for

Possible to get it working; Yes.

Are you going to; No.

It'll take days soldering the memory to another board with the same controller for a chance at getting it to work. It can be done. But its not for the faint of heart.

if it's simply the usb connector that has broken off, yes.

if the board is broken... it's not very viable.

This is why all of my official college work i always stuck up on the college ftp that i was assigned (5GB's per student)

If it's extremely viable to have this and it's the board that's broken, then you're going to have to pay a bit to have someone re-solder the joints on the board back together (if it's even possible). or solder your chip onto another compatible stick

i've done it with old school chips when i went to college for wafers

just took a closer look and the black part is also *****ed, if i did i would be taking it to the manufacturer or staples to have them send it off for data retrieval, its actually worth 40% of the grade at school and the software is only avalible at the school which is why she wasnt able to upload the saved files to a ftp at school, guess she could of at home though

USB Drives can fail every time I even seen New Devices used 1 -2 Times and then faild.

SO allways make 1-2 Backups

How about posting a picture so we can actually see the damage, kind of hard to guess wether or not this is fixable by an ascii art image xD
