Realm Transfer Question

I'm thinking of transferring my character to a new realm. However, I also want the name changed. Can anyone tell besides me if a character's name was changed or the character was transferred if I don't log into that character until both are complete?

What if my character's name is already taken on the destination realm?

I thought of an idea. What if I make a character with the same name on my account on the server I want to transfer the character to, will it still prompt me for a name change?

In case of a naming conflict, you will be prompted to rename your character after the transfer is complete and you log into the new realm. Please be aware that any new name created for your character must comply with Blizzard's naming policy.

I'm guessing only people with realm transfer experience will know the answers to these questions.

I have made a toon on the realm I wanted to transfer to and then transferred. I was then able to change the name of the transferred toon due to a naming conflict.

if you create a character with the same name at your target realm, you'll be asked to change your name after the transfer.
I've done it several times before.
