Question about clearing combat state

I use HB on a private server, and it has had a bug for several years now that I believe keeps your pet flagged for combat even though you are out of combat (trinity core). Anyway, I'm new to plugins and such and was wondering what the best way would be to either override a flag to remain in combat while your pet is or how to clear the combat flag to begin with. Any help is greatly appreciated
