Quantifying the ideal server

What is the ideal number of players in a faction per realm to make money on the AH?

I often read threads saying that "low" or "medium" servers are great for botting and making money on the AH. However, what exactly does that mean? I'd like to quantify server size by faction in relation to the market in hopes of finding an ideal server to transfer to.

When I look at the Alliance numbers on Realm Pop I see that the smallest guilds are around 10,000 players and the largest are over 100,000. Naturally, this would lead me to think that realms with 40,000-50,000 players are ideal, but is this true? Or is it more along the lines of 20,000-30,000 players?

I thought about listing a few servers as examples, but decided not to because I don't want to introduce any bias into your responses.

So, how many players per faction on a realm is ideal for making money on the AH with HB?

Doesn't it both have pro's and con's? I mean, a low populated server has less supply, but also less demand. If you are on a low populated server, you have fewer competition from other players when it comes to gathering and selling on AH. At the same time, less players also means less people who want/need to buy your items.

The same goes for a high populated server; There will probably be more players who gather and sell items on AH, so you have more competition there, but there are also more people who actually buy things from AH, so your market is bigger.

What the actual numbers are for an ideal situation, I do not know. This is just how I think it works.
