Pros/Cons of using the AH

I was curious, though I am sure it has been thought of before:

Post an item to the AH on a vanilla account or unrelated account for xx amount of gold, purchase said item from the farm character. Other than a 1h time delay on the money received, what could/should be the pros and cons of it?

you lose a percentage of the gold to the AH
so for big money it sucks

isn't it a fraction of the deposit on the item lost, not an actual percentage of the money posted for the item?

Its a flat 5% fee on the ending price of item (or buyout price if bought out)
