Problems with witchdoctor combat

Im playing a pet witchdoctor so my pets do most of the dmg and I have a no spender on right click, it will cast it a few times then go into melee range and start meleeing.

the abilitiy is on a cooldown but like 2 seconds, is there some way to get it to stop meleeing period? and to just keep running around?
 
Go to Trinity settings, Combat, and Witch Doctor section.

For Min-Distance before Kite, change it to 6.

Witch Doctor will still go up close, but he/she will move back if any monster is too close.

There are benefits for moving up close, for example health globes will be picked up that can heal pets.

It is also good for the Grave Injustice passive.
