Of course 24/7 is more effective. But I wouldn't do it until you have paid for your account.
I run mine 24/7 because of the money I've made on my accounts.
Back when gold was easy to sell on RMAH, I paid for all of my accounts and DB in under a week.

If you bot <24/7 you'll get less gold/day for sure. On the other side NOTHING can guarantee you that you won't get banned if you bot 12 hours per day. I've had bots banned and still have some that have 800h botted and still going strong, and there have been no rules about how many hours you should bot.
For me, it's pretty damn simple, buy bots, level them by hand because blizz bans leveling bots fast as hell, and then just let them farm 24/7, they will pay themselves in couple of days and then rest of it's profit.

my accounts seem to get banned randomly rofl. here and there accounts drop whether 12/7 or 24/7. as long as there is enough back up, screw it 24/7 all the way

Banned does seem to hit my accounts at random also. I've had 8 hour per day accounts banned so I find it better just to go 24/7 and repay the initial investment fast. Have some 24/7 accounts that haven't been banned for weeks. So far, so good.

What are you doing to pay off your investment in 3 days if you mind me asking? When sark was viable I could see this. But a1 and 2 farming doesn't cut it for me. Hell if I could pay off my investment in 3 days, I'd be running 100 accounts by now
