Niantic had players on edge with a big announcement today that promised to add new Pokémon into Pokémon GO in some capacity.
Players have been hotly debating whether it would be the Legendary Gen 1 Pokémon added into the mix at last,
or perhaps the rollout of 100 new Pokémon from Gold and Silver’s Gen 2.
It’s neither, of course.
Rather, today’s big announcement isn’t nearly as big as players were imagining.
Today Niantic announced that Gen 2 Pokémon are coming, but not all 100 like players were hoping for. Not even close.
Instead, only a few Gen 2 Pokémon are joining the game:
Togepi, Pichu
and “several more select Pokémon.”
They will not appear in the wild, and can only be hatched from eggs.
Icing on the cake is a “limited edition Pikachu” who will spawn in a festive hat.
No word on if this is the entirety of their Christmas event or not.
