So I'm leveling a Warlock these days and I couldn't help but notice that every CC out there that is still maintained (I lied, I only tried Singular) insists on finishing the cast on Soul Harvest every fuckin' time, even though it's full on Soul Shards and on HP...

What it does:
  • Stops your Warlock from finishing the cast on Soul Harvest
What it doesn't do:
  • Mows your lawn
How to use:
  • Put .CS file in Plugins.
  • Enable Plugin.

Download link: *removed*

Release threads MUST include a download as an attachment external links are not allowed. if one cannot be provided then the thread will be closed and moved to the archives.

I've released my stuff on the forum like this for, well, ages, and nobody had anything to comment about it.

Could you please go do other, more interesting stuff with your time rather than bugging me?

Also, it's not in the rules, so please stop making your own rules that this forum must follow.

Ya really, If this was a rule, then all the SVN's would have to be shutdown too..

Yes I can see how this would be an issue for SVN's such as Singular, as these would violate the forum rules and would be removed under the current guidelines.

I personally think that SVNs should be excluded from these rules, although ofcourse it would just be exactly the same risk.

you had a link that goes god knows where. linking offsite is not allowed, if it was an exact link to the file on an SVN it would of been different, but you had a shortened URL that could of taken you anywhere. and THAT'S why i took the link down.
? Direct links to external files (these paths could be changed at any time without your knowledge)
http://www.thebuddyforum.com/buddy-...rbuddy-honorbuddy-forum-rules-guidelines.html

so you can ether put up the FULL URL of the SVN or you can attach the file to the thread.

those are your options.

The files are hosted by ME on MY dropbox and the short URL belongs to ME and I am the only one that can change it whenever the hell I want.

Now bugger off in another thread and teach noobs how to attach files.

Enough. Either provide a direct link (for security reasons), or don't link it at all. Thats all there is to it. We'd prefer you offer a direct download via attachment (in case something happens, there's still a copy on our servers for users to grab).

Keep up the attitude and you'll be losing your posting privs for a while. End of story.

To those reading this; we don't like URL shorteners because they can lead to random malicious places which is nothing but a headache for us to deal with. If you really need to hide your SVN for some reason, just post your stuff as an attachment. Its really that simple. I'll update the rules shortly to explain this (could have sworn it was in there already).

Sorry, had to reply.

Singular is a bit different. First of all; its a "default" CC provided with HB. So the rules are a little "bent" for it specifically (this is for the ease-of-use for the average customer really). We provide 2 links, one leads to the SVN where users can use it as a normal repository, and another which is just an automatically-created .zip file of the current repo. Considering the frequency of changes in Singular, it was not feasible to deal with attachments (especially since I was the only one who could edit the first post). I'll talk with Hawker/Bossland about it, but I do think that if its a multi-file project, some form of zip (or similar) should be provided just to make life easy for users (I'm more than happy to host SVNs with automatic zip links for anybody who asks for one). Obviously, single-file links are... well... already direct links to the file. We have no problem with developers using SVN, Git, Mercurial, etc. But when it causes headaches for the average customer to use the project, it becomes an issue.

As I said previously, we'd prefer you have an attachment if at all possible, simply so there is an "always available" link to it.

There's a simple reason I don't do that:

Managing attachments on the forum is crap. Once you have more than ~20 attachments, you can't manage them properly.

Updating the file to different releases is even worse... delete old file, upload new one, insert into post etc.

Keeping stuff on an external server is easier because I can just update the file in my dropbox and I know that everyone who downloads it will download the latest version.

Plus, the only reason I shorten is because I want to know how many people have downloaded my file and when.

Goo.gl provides the perfect opportunity because they offer stats for your short URLs: http://goo.gl/YtPaB.info <-- like this

Further more, I've been doing this for well over a year and it strikes me odd that CnG picks on me NOW after all this time.

This is the reason that the user gave:
Plugin not attached but linked. And then even linked to an anonymizer so that you never know what you're downloading.

im not "Picking" on you im just responding to a report.

and in THIS case we are talking about 1 file, not 20, and i can tell you from experience, there's no reason to have 20 release files as attachments. once you get past 10, go in and remove the old ones. theres no reason to keep dancing around, ether put the full url, without the shortened, or attach the file, thats really all there is too it.

Thanks for the clarification.

I will stop posting my crappy 3-lines of code from now on with users like that.
