computer specs
i5-2500k cpu
nvidia 9800 gt 256gb vram
8gb of rams

I'm using vmware workstation 8, having trouble running 3 workstations

how do you guys run it without being so laggy?

I give each workstation 2 gb of ram, and 1 core but damn is it laggy...

I set each bot to have 80 fps and 80 background fps and it still has crazy lag

help please!

I think your computer is a bit old to run 3 VM's.

i7 920
ati 6870 1gb
24GB ram

Running 2 VMs with DB. Playing with Main account on Host works, but is a bit laggy. Will test 3 VMs tomorrow

Check your RAM usage. You probably need more than 8gigs.

Also, control+alt+delete and set diablo to high priority.

you need more than 8Gb dude.

2Gb set for each VM means you only have 2Gb left for your host account which is not enough.

also maybe upgrade your gpu

what operating system are you using on your main PC and each VM?
(Win7 64bit is preferred, but at times XP will work better on older/different systems.)

i5 is fine
8gb for 2-3VM is fine
video card yet to be determined after you make changes
80 fps and 80 background fps - way off - see below

1.5 gb and 2 core per VM

vm setting options -
under general make sure your correct operating system is selected
under advanced turn on disable page memory trimming

vm workstation - under edit - preferences - memory
first try allow most virtual machine memory to be swapped
then try allow some virtual machine memory to be swapped
and last try fit all virtual machine memory into reserved host ram
based on testing all three above, select the one that performs the best, probably the first will.

make sure the only programs installed and running per VM is DB and Diablo acct
in each VM, set all operating systems to performance
turn off or uninstall ALL un-needed items, remove games under start menu ..etc ..strip it bare - non essentials.
in your main PC, turn off all anti virus that scans your VM directory - antivirus will kill your VM performance if it is scanning VM hosts

Diablo settings
resolution 800x600
fps front 24 back 12
texture quality low
shadow quality off
physics low
density cluster off
anti-aliasing off
low fx on
sound off

hud - all off

defrag each VM and main PC - each 24 hours.

choke points will occur with memory and then I/O transfers of the HDD before anything else in VM.

report back your test findings...have fun!

report back asap, kinda shocked you feel laggy when you have so much ram and a better video card

thanks for the help, using 2 cores for each helped alot but i'm still experiencing tons of lag, think i might have to over clock my cpu higher
I'm using windows xp on my vms

are you using window 7 on your vms?

Remember that your HDD might also be the culprit. I just changed from 2 cores to 4 cores and the lagg was just as "bad". I know that the HDD is my bottleneck atm, already ordered another SSD in the mail, will probably get it on tuesday. Will update then.

What do you mean hud - all off??

and front/back fps?? :S

front fps is the normal fps, which defaults at 160 i think

and back fps is the one underneath it called background fps

Theres section dedicated to HUD, which deals with
monster's life bar .. showing your hp on top of your character etc

Thanks!

Sometimes my VM goes all white screen for some reason

Vms cannot directly use your video hardware, do min graphics, min res, windowed, then it is PLAYABLE. However, with db running, lags the game to shit. Just an optimization thing as db is calling unmanaged code all the time, until they optimize it further, you will not run as well on vm

aww what a waste of my GTX670
