Old PC Rig

So I am trying to bot on an old PC that I have lying around and was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting an old rig to work well in D3. It used to be my gaming computer a number of years back, and to be honest I am surprised it's having trouble running D3. Here are the specs:

8 GB DDR2
Geforce GTS 250
Pentium Dual-Core E5200 2.5Ghz
Win Vista 64 bit

I kind of feel like the processor is what is holding me back. It plays D3, but it stutters, and sometimes pretty badly. It seems like it's screwing up the navigation of the bot, because it *should* be further along than it actually is because sometimes a stutter will last a whole second. Right now the graphics are set all the way to the bottom, and I have foreground FPS set to 20, although I might try playing with a lower number. As it stands I get so many stucks that it's pretty much unplayable, I can't leave it afk for longer than 5 minutes. Any suggestions? Aside from buying another PC. I already have bots up and running on other computers, but I have this spare PC....

MY PC is so much worse than yours and I run 2 bots on it at once. What is your startup usage? Did you tweak graphics settings? Try upgrading to windows 7 and updating drivers.

3.5 GB DDR2
Nvidia 9600 GT 512 MB
Pentium Dual Core 2.2 Ghz
Windows 7 Lite

If the HD you are using is too slow it could be the cause of the stuttering. I run two bots on something very similar and have run as many as four at once on it. Mine is OC to 3.2ghz though. Try and turn your res down to 800x600 and see what happens.

See I was a little surprised that it was having trouble. I know DDR2 is old and so is the processor, but the video card is way better than an onboard graphics card, and it's still 8 gigs of memory. Not sure if this game is tied real heavily to the processor or not. Tonight I think I am going to do some maintenance on the PC like defrag/update drivers, and I am going to go through all my startups in msconfig and turn off pretty much everything. It's going to be exclusively a botting PC so I don't need everything else on it. I never liked Vista (I bought it back when it was XP vs Vista, and Vista had DX10) but I don't have a spare Win 7 license.

I actually use XP SP3 on my bot machines. It uses way less resources than windows7 so there is more memory available for the bots & D3.

I use Windows 7 Lite with uses 400 MB of ram on startup, I'd be surprised if XP was more efficient. I find that my computer maxes out processor use before it maxes out ram use. I have a lot of stuttering when my video card is hot and when im up against a lot of mobs, which causes me to die occasionally. Oh and I have an SSD so the HD isnt the problem.

Actually, I forgot I changed one of them. One runs 4 bots and is Windows 7 8GB and 280 GTX, the other runs 2 bots and is XP SP3 with 2GB and 8800 Ultra.

Yeah you have less ram than me, a similar graphics card, and a better processor. Botting is more processor intensive than ram methinks.
