This may or may not interest Non Americans, but even if your in another country this could wind up reaching you as well, as the US Government has joined forces with the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America), and the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), who have both been active in prosecuting such sites as The Pirate Bay and Oink.

Anyways. Read up on it and discuss what you think. If it turns into a flame thread I will have an admin close it.

I don't like this at all.

Every day, this country becomes more socialist.

All I hear americans say is "socialist,socialist,socialist..." when change comes. I suppose you also think that healthcare reform is also a socialist decision?

And more to the point, piracy is illegal, they have the right to stop it anyway they can.

I buy original games and software. Cinema is the best place for movies so this change doesn't actually affect me even though the quality of products will raise after more people pay.

There's nothing you can do if somebody wants to watch a video.

It is not a physical product or material, so you technically cannot steal it.

If I decide to copy a video onto my harddrive, then it is now my property and you have no right to take it from me.

Charge me if you'd like, but if I were allowed to have a gun I'd fight back.

P.S. Damn mongers and hogs, thinking it's fine to glorify fornication, untruths, and controlling political ideals.

Here in the Netherlands there is a big discussion about consumer rights. Simply put: "you buy it, you own it". As it turns out, it is an international right that the US never respected(since they live in a universe of their own). This is now becoming an issue in the EU as well.
The EU would even like to step it up by reducing the time for copyright back to 10 years. Of course the industry disagrees. They just care about the money.

We will have to be patient but it might come to a nice little clash between the EU and US....
I guess Obama has got one more hurdle to take witch might be to big to take since the EU is getting fed up with the US way of thinking since they seem to be wrong with just about EVERYTHING....

I recommend works of Stephan Kinsella to those that are interested in topic of IP/patents etc. This guys has some serious arguments againts whole thing.

What is legal or not is up to decide for government. Governments are corrupt so they will decide whatever is most desirable for special interests that are buying up politicians. There is nothing sacred about law. It is just an opinion backed up with a gun. Don't confuse morality with legality - often they are very far away from each other.

Whole public option thing is pure socialism no matter how you look at it. I know because I'm not american and I'm "blessed" with "free" government health care.

For people interested in liberty and issues that go with her - check out mises.org (fantastic site - it might just change your life forever ;)).

Netherlands and for that matter most of the EU behaved like USA's lapdog since the start.
USA dictates and EU bends like a marionette.
Don't think it's gonna get to a fight, EU will say "yes", "no" and "amen!" just like they are trained to do.
Maybe "The People" of the EU are fed up, but the EU itself exists by the grace of the USA.

At least that's how I see it (and it doesn't mean I like it!).

But most people only go on pirate bay as they cant afford to go to the cinema ect as the films are 15euro to go in and see and then you have to get popcorn ect. its madness the price of movies atm its 10euro per child and 15 per adult!

I think the government should stay the heck out of commercial business issues. I understand that pirating may be a form of stealing however the system that is setup now is also a form of stealing. (example) if goto a movie that was not worth (IMO) the 15$ i pay to watch it. Who do I talk to about a refund? If you buy a game that is horrible or totally lack the luster the box says it has. Who do i talk to? The way the system that is setup now is they offer you something and till you spend the money on it you don't know you if you bought shit or gold.

How many can you view in a month? There are like 4-5 MAX good movies that are worth a watch

What you say is stupidity, law is law, and it is your duty and obligation to accept that. The government is corrupt? what qualifies you to make such a bold statement? You have no evidence to back it up... So stop blabering on about conspiracy rubbish. If you think piracy is ok then you think anything illegal is ok. I might aswell go rob a bank if I live in your world.
Strange arguments that people give... I really don't understand what you are trying to say...Honestly

I live in France. I am blessed with free healthcare. What is not free about healthcare in france for example? If you believe that taxing everyone so that EVERYONE gets good healthcare is socialism then we don't agree.

Didnt read all of it but the film companies in USA cant shut down TPB because one of our partys is hosting it (Pirat Party).

Sorry for bad english as its my second language :P

Reminds me of the South Park episode where Britney Spears cant upgrade her Gulf-stream 3 to a Gulf-stream 4 because people are downloading music, I download all of my music if I cant get it on the pirate bay ill rip it off you tube. I think the people in America should be more concerned with Obama practicly giving a large chunk of Arizona to the Mexicans.

^^ This is the reason why I download music and videos.

"Pirating" is illegal, but musicians and actors to parade around as if they were Gods. If I pirate something that turns out to be a good piece of work, then I will buy it. However, 9/10 times the music or movie turns out to be a big steaming turd that I would never pay money for.

If there was a way for me to "pirate" event tickets, I would do that as well because professional athletes in this country are insanely overpaid too.

A lot of the actors/athletes/musicians are criminals too, but they get away with everything because they have money.
