With the popularity of the game diminishing and more and more people walking out of the game, it will be soon before bot makers stop creating bot for this game. Niantic continuous updates adds negatively to this effect.

In my neighborhood, there are less and less activities in the gym. And Niantic’c latest update to bring 6 pokemons to training made everything worse. Instead of fighting for the gym, everyone is digging in and creating their own turf. Taking over a level 8 to 10 gyms is easy, you don’t need to be very high level, but it takes time and very costly in terms of potion and revive potions. These resources are not easy to collect, and without bot, taking over a gym is becoming unsustainable. There used to be a lot of fighting in the gym, and changing over from one team to another in a matter of hours used to be the norm, but not anymore. Gyms are stagnant, and without bots to collect potions and revive potions required to take over a high level gym, it will be like this for a very long time. New players cannot take over because of their low level (if there are new players at all) and ex botters and high level players (what’s left of them) cannot take over either because of lack of potions. I myself minimized fighting in the gym (even though I have high level accounts on three colors), without knowing when I will be able to replenish them. Catching pokemon became almost prohibitive too, since at high level, even catching a low CP rattatta takes three to four balls. Spending 50 red pokeballs trying to catch 15 to 25 pokemon at high level is normal.

So right now, players in my area who used to be active are now content with just collecting coins, not touching each other. It’s like having many battleships and artilleries in your arsenal, but guns are quiet, we all ran out of ammo. And without bot, it may stay like this for a long while.

If you just walk through a park, just for half an hour you have plenty of potions and stuff, absolutely no problem. I still attack/takeover every gym i see or take the time to push it, to put in a pokemon. same goes for catching pokemon, every time i walk somewhere i catch everything available.

I don't agree, take down a strong level 10 gym (with weakest pokemon in gym of 2000cp) and see how many revives and potions you use up (not to mention the time doing it).
Farming pokestops gives you mostly pokeballs followed by basic potions which heal 20hp which is useless healing vaporeons (you need a stack of them).
The bigger issue is revives.
In 30 minutes of visiting pokestops you'd be lucky to get more than 10 revives.
It's an endless time waster for little entertainment value.

Interesting, you must either have a very strong collection of pokemons, or weak gyms in your area. To take down a strong level 10 gym, you must attack it at least 8 or 9 times. Average revive potions required to take down a strong level 10 is 6+6+6+5+4+3+2+1 = 33 revive potions. Even my level 38 account takes time to take over. Not all poke stops will give you revive, best case scenario is one every three pokestops, and that is even pushing it. 90 pokestops in half hour to get 30 revive potion when each pokestop recharges after 5 mins. You must have a perfect park in your area.

And this is only for one gym.

On my level 29 account fighting a strong level 10 gym it takes somewhere between 14 to 18 goes not 8 to 9.

One other observation I have made is in my area 75% of the gyms are blue 20% are red and only around 5% are yellow.
So the only people really playing are all on the same team.
The game is a broken dead set boring piece of junk.
Hahaha

Most people totally fail attacking/pushing gyms...just always taking their strongest pokemon. Totally wrong. You can easily take down ANY pokemon if you just have a pokedex app and check the weakness of a certain pokemon.

Same goes for pushing a gym. If you attack with a pokemon that has half the cp of the pokemon your are training against but still beat it due to water>fire, fire>nature or whatever you gain way more points for each fight.

I don't mind having low level trainers taking down gyms. I used to have a very efficient method to power up gyms to level 10 using very little potions without using revives. Even with the change in the gym training sessios, I hadn't updated my phone app knowing Niantic would screw up my method. But yesterday I was forced to update my phone app. Which practically left my process of powering up gyms useless. May be we should just quit training in gyms completely and leaving level 3 gyms open to be taken over.

But i agree, the game is practically unplayable. With pokemons appearing and dissapearing from the sightings.

Actually, I agree with both of you, Da Soul and Fat Bob, although we might have differing opinions.

"Fire beats grass, grass beats water, water beats fire, electric beats water, water beats ground, etc..." Those are good advice, but they are beginner's advice. And that is a good advice for novice gym players whose idea of fighting is standing and trading blow by blow and winning by brute force. For experienced gym fighters, these strength and weakness is not even relevant at all. I can take out any pokemon regardless of their type and CP level with a 1500 Vaporeon. Pokemons in the gym are so predictable and they give a lot of warnings before they attack. Once you become proficient with it, you can almost beat any pokemon twice your CP, no matter what type they are. Also at high level gyms, types are easily negated. Experienced team does not just stack their pokemon in the gym, like in my area. We alternate their types, So you may face an Arcanine with a water type pokemon, but after beating it, you will face a grass type, and another type, and another but no similar type back to back to compensate for their weaknesses. The only time we used a back to back same type pokemon is with Snorlax and Dragonites, which have no natural weakness. And if a gym is populated by a single person, it can be stronger. I have enough high level accounts to populate a gym with 10 level 30+ dragonites or snorlax, and there is not a lot of strong fairy pokemons out there. In my area though, this is nothing to brag about since players here used to be aggressive, a level 25 will not hesitate to take it down. But it will cost.

My experience could be different from yours though, but it doesn't take me more than 10 tries to take over a level 10 gym. Each of my attack reduces the gym by one level, and yes, 6 pokemons can easily beat 10 pokemons in the gym. So I calculated 6 revives on first attack, and so on. It is actually a conservative assumption, not to mention that when I build up my gym, I put low CP pokemons at the front, to make it easier for me to push it up. I simply eliminate them later using different account with different color, and replaced with higher CP later.

This brings me to my next disappointment with the game. There is nothing to look forward to. The difference between level 33 and 34 is 1,000,000 XP, but the improvement in CP for a Pokémon is only 1.5. You might have thought that catching 10,000 pokemons will give you something more, but no. Put your level 34 Arcanine in the gym, and a level 25 Vaporeon will take you out in seconds. It doesn't matter if the XP difference between the two is a whopping 4,040,000 XP. And it takes another 1,250,000 xp to advance to level 35, so that you can power up your pokemon by a mere 30-40 CP. To me, that's stupid. Yes, it may be a bragging right to reach that level, but for me, its completely pointless, useless, and idiotic.

It's actually quite easy to do. That red flashing light before the attack is very visible at night. During the day, you have to adjust the contrast of the screen. Fighting type is the best pokemon to use against Normal like Snorlax, but I like to use Vaporeon a lot even though it is water type because it is so quick and easy to maneuver. I tried Gyarados because it can fight both fire and grass, and its not weak against another water, but its not as responsive and as fast. Golduck is almost as fast as Vaporeon, but its CP doesn't go as high when I need to fight a real high CP pokemon.
