Hello everyone
I'll start immediatly with a disclaimer :
Don't be fooled by the title : I don't ask support for private servers, but I found 3 very interesting information (I'm not aware if that information had already been relayed here before). I'm just sarelaying the info, don't know if it's true or not.

A point of background :
I was affected by a previous banwave (2 or 3 month ago) and got banned for 6 months.
For some personnal reasons it did suits me.
But lately I wanted to play again. My first plan was to appeal the ban by pretexting I was hacked (since I actually moved out, and as a consequence my IP changed) but I will finally wait the end of the ban period: Looking at this forum, something tells me that bot detection is still strong.
But now I'm considering playing on private servers, and preferably my favourite version of this game : Vanilla one (which I will play bot free).

Looking at what I could play on, I read some articles on various Vanilla private servers and just found some articles about the closed Nostalrius servers. Here are the information that did retain my attention :

1. They did developp an extremly reliable bot detection system
2. They were received by Blizzard teams for "presenting a petition about a possible resurrection of Vanilla servers" (yeah ... )
3. First Blizzard precise massive multibot banwave did start shortly after

Important notes:
- Blizzard did suit Nostalrius team before all this
- Blizzard did ban every player from offciial servers they estimate to play Nostalrius servers
- Part of the Nostalrius teams is now working on Elysium project (Vanilla server again) where bot detection seems also very effective (I'm just relaying rumors, didn't tryed for myself).

articles :
Meeting with Blizzard
They talk about their anticheats/antibots code they won't release to the community... but it could have been sold to Blizzard

Something to think about...

PS: part of the Nostalrius teams is now working on Elysium project (Vanilla server again)
You've clearly not been paying attention. Nost left a long time ago, and yesterday Crestfall withdrew from the LGN over corruption in top Elysium staff.
Also "extremely reliable" is a stretch. I've used a free bot on Nost and Elysium for quite a while. You just have to bot smarter.

Hello.
Yes I wasn't aware of that withdraw, thank you to bring it on.
Never the less they still did have Nostalrius source, and they can rewrite some new code based on those ideas.

Again I didn't say it 's an absolute truth I was pointing at, just a disturbing coincidence here between Nost meeting blizzard and shortly after, Blizzard having a really efficient antibot detection system.

Blizzard has had improved detection since 2015, way before Nost devs met with them.
Elysium used their own core for seven years, until they changed to a stock CMangos core with their own scripting, combined with a bit of Nost scripting. The best of both worlds. Crestfall has then helped them prepare for AQ40.
And while it's conjecture, it's a pretty common belief that the Nost devs are actively helping the Elysium devs behind the cover of being Blizzard friendly. However that may have changed in light of the events this week.

The truth is, there will always be servers like Nostalrius or Elysium, simply because there is demand for vanilla wow gameplay.

It is totally Blizzard's fault for not supporting such marketing niche. It is sad, because like any huge corporation, Blizzard are very slow and they will probably make similar project, when it will be too late already. Just like they made HotS, enough years after DOTA 2, LoL or any other decent DOTA sequel.

And since WoW's fundamental approach is botting-friendly, there will always be bots for those private servers too!

Regarding the banwaves, the difference was made by the new Antihack team leader, Blizzard had recruited a few years ago. He totally changed the way Blizzard "handle" the 3rd party toolс .. .obviously!

Do you have proof that there will always be servers like this, Aion?

You do not need proof for the business rule of supply and demand, Jiniix:

If there is demand, there will be supply as well!

Do you think, that if Nostalrius was small and unnoticeable private server, Blizz would target and C&D blackmailing them?

I don't see in any way how the C&D is related to my question.
And the "rule" is not that there will always be supply, it's that the price changes depending on supply and demand.
Running a server for 10.000+ players without making money does not adhere to supply and demand.
