MF% affects drop rate or quality of items?

Does it affect the number of items that drop, or the quality of items (i.e. better stats with higher %)?

You get the same drop rate but greater percent that the items are better ilvl/quality.

Same as D2, quit spreading false facts.

Not sure you understand what you're talking about. With higher MF, its a higher chance that the DROP ITSELF is going to be a Magic (blue/yellow/orange) item. It doesn't have anything to do with the ilvl.

There is a great deal of information to be found in this thread which leads to his conclusion: MF increases only the quality of the gear dropped, not the amounts or the iLvl.

The iLvl remains untouched. But the quality is affected.

Since it wasnt worth it to you to pull the (imaginary?) blue post, I did a little research on my own. Oh, look here:

"agic Find increases the odds for found items (from monsters or objects) to be "higher quality". Higher quality items are more likely to be magical, rare, set, or legendary, with different odds for each type of item depending on the Monster Level dropping the item and the player's Magic Find percentage. Magic Find doesn't make items with higher item level to drop since monsters have a set of items they're capable of dropping (eg. the highest tier of items will only drop from monsters with Monster Level 63) nor does it increase the quantity of items dropped."

so with higher MF%, more magic/rares/legendaries should drop in comparison to a lower MF%, but doesn't necessarily mean those items will have a higher stat roll (e.g. higher dps on weapons), am i right? to put it simply, MF% only affects the number of M/R/L that drops - that's what i gather from the posts above.

You are exactly right. It MF has nothing at all to do with the iLvl of the dropped item, or with the actual quality of the stat rolls. Having higher MF means simply you have a higher chance to find some kind of magic item than normal.​

THIS is the question which should be asked. All though I cannot link to it I vaguely recall seeing a bluepost stating that MF would increase the chances of getting better stat-rolls on items. Also, my memory isnt what it used to be, so dont kill me if Im wrong.

lol that guy makes me rofl.. but as far as MF affecting stat rolls, while I don't have concrete proof as I did with with iLvl bit, from personal experience i can tell you that higher MF does not affect rolls. Last night I was playing with some friends, farming act 3 with 280 MF + 5 NV stacks, and out of probably 100 rares, I found maybe 3 things worth keeping.

MF does unfortunately not affect stat rolls or affixes. It only affects quality of the items dropped.
