Map not showing

Well, i guess i`m just gonna give it a try. As i can`t find any statisfying post.
My map isn`t showing. Been having this problem since beginning. I was just about to deal with it, but reading posts about the same problem make me believe that there might still be some hope.
Anyways, i installed latest java and tried to update visual drivers. -no success

I am running windows Vista SP2 on a Laptop.

What options do i still have?

well.... please don`t laugh
i tried to update the driver and ended up with a mobility catalyst whatever, hitting an error while installing....
so i deinstalled the drivers i had...
restart and guess what...
map is showing.... wtf did i do setting up this laptop?... xD
