The average vendor value for a stack of obsidium(elementium) ore after prospecting and cutting is around 54g

and now , that is around 20g ( even after cutting , that is around 4g)

The AH price is quite often higher than this

is this strategy is no longer useful?

If you can sell on AH that is definately the way to go at the moment. Cut gems are worth nothing anymore. A stack of obsidium has gone from 54G to 30G (6 green gems). Elementium from 44G to 26G (4 green, 2 blue).
Ore prices are dropping steeply as well though, Elementium has dropped to 35G per stack on my server and Obsidium is about the same now. I'm quite sure it won't take long to drop below 30/26G.
