Making gold through gathering or crafting?

Sorry if this is a silly place to ask this, but I'm a bit curious as to what yields the most gold.

Just finished leveling my first couple of characters to 80 and I want to start making some real gold with HB and GB. Currently, most of my characters have herb/mining, but I'm guessing that's not the best way to make gold.
I'm looking at market prices of craftable items on some realms. Would it be beneficial to have an alt with some crafting professions to routinely make items for the AH, or should I just stick with farming high level harbs/mines and put them directly on the AH?

Your advice is appreciated.

wel what i do with one of my 80 just mining saronite smelt them sell at vendor 20 saronite bars is 25g its even more then they go on ah for i dont even use the ah only for buying things and selling high and buying low but for mining i sell those bars on vendor

If you wanna make gold, you should use both gathering and crafting.
For saronite ores, I smelt them and send them to transmutation master to turn them into titanium bars.
Then I make titansteel bars out of titanium bars. If the price titansteel bar goes down too much, I just vendor saronite bars.
For herb, you should make them into flasks or potion(haste potion), or use scribe to make inks.
Prices are different for every server so calculate which is most beneficial.

divide and conquer,

Don't only gather, also make alts who can be enchanters, alchemists and jewelcrafters and have them transmute / brew / prospect /whatever .

This way you can split up the materials you get, make greenies from the gems etc and shard them, and post stuff on AH on a variety of markets instead of getting yourself banned for market exploitation by posting millions of ores/herbs alone.

I find having a 450 jc and 5 x 450 alc handy. I can create 5 epics minimum per 24hrs off the eternals and gems that are a by-product of farming. If I get procs I can sometimes get 5 - 10. Each epic sells for around 100g so thats about 500g legit per day for about 5 mins work.

Also if you have one of the alcs as a elixir master you can pump out flasks with the herbs which sell for around 10g each on my server so thats always good

I hate spending time micromanaging so here is how I make my gold through mining.
1. Smelt Saronite bars and vendor them all
2. Vendor all uncommon/rare gems
3. Vendor all Eternals that go for less than 8g on my server
-If I am feeling inspired I will also
4. Prospect 3/4 my Titanium ore
5. AH Titanium powder (price is crazy high on my server)
6. Make Titansteel bars with the rest
7. AH cut/uncut Epic gems on AH
8. AH more expensive Eternals
I am a lazy botter and don't really care about maximizing my gold. I usually vendor everything. I make at least 600+ a day and that more than takes care of me
