Looking into warden...

So ever since the bans happened, I've been hunting the net and seeing what I can find out about "Warden" and if there are any ways to beat it. So far, as I'm sure of you know, I've come up with exactly zip.

However, I have come across some interesting posts, that I do have questions about.

"there are other options out there if you do in fact what to know EXACTLY what warden is monitoring, as you do have the right to know what information a program is accessing on your computer/ information system (court ruling). Blizzard will not, nor do they have the obligation to tell you freely though. YES by installing the game you do agree to allow blizz to freely scan your RAM and some other misc data. YES it is legally binding. YES you can manually implement tools that prevent warden from doing its job properly so long as it still is 1) on your machine and 2) functioning (while it may not be getting what its looking for, it is still looking for it). and finally YES you may use programs that monitor EXACTLY what warden sees, tracks, logs, and reports back to home. However (as it is well known to the learned) the Warden system performs a DLL scan at startup to see what's running and periodically takes snapshots of the same, compares whats running to a database of known "cheat" programs, and sends back a simple "yes or no" home to blizz. A yes from the warden system activates a "flag" on your account and you will more than likely be investigated. Since warden has been around since about 2006/2005 theres is ALOT that is known about it, what it does, and what it used to do. Technically, yes, warden is spyware. however you agreed to have and keep it so long as WoW is on your IS (information system)."

So, as I'm still a noob to this whole botting thing, is there any way to hide/change the .DLL so that "Warden" doesn't pick up on it? I have already renamed the .exe file. However, that's only a fraction of what "Warden" picks up on. If I was to rename the .DLL would that work? Or would it cause conflicts within HB itself? And would that even make a difference at all?

I'm not a programmer so code is exactly that to me, code. So that being said, is there something within the .DLL itself that screams, "Hey Blizz, I'm cheating and using Honorbuddy"? And if so, how would I go about changing that?

Don't worry about warden..

Its never been a concerned for hb, and never will be I think.. the recent ban wave detection was not a warden detection they know that much..

Renaming anything is pointless, executable names haven't ment anything since windows 98..

If and when warden ever becomes a issue the hb we be onto it so you need not worry about it.

Alright, nice clear answer that a noob can understand. Now what about the scanning of my RAM? I know, it's in the EULA. But what exactly would it be looking for? I'm looking at a wow log file and it's showing a hell of a lot of information. .exe's and .dll's

Shows my computer name, my user name that I'm logged onto my computer under, OS info, how much disk space I've used, how much memory I have etc. Is this what gets sent to Blizz?

Yep, blizzard can see that stuff, but doesn't contain anything that can identify hb..

I don't know the answer regarding what can be scanned with your memory..

My understanding is blizzard can not look outside there own application, in regards to memory scans, although the EUA, says they can,

In Australia not EUA would let any company have free scan of your computers memory, there can be confidential information stored in your memory, and viewing it would be highly illegal...

So I dont really know that answer..

So I dont really know that answer..

if blizzard scans for " insert name related to honorbuddy "

nothing is illegal.

They dont scan your whole memory, just look if something is present, thats a big difference.

how u know this...

u talk like ur part of the developer team.

no one knows what happened, including bossland.

no one knows how warden works or if it even exists, just like hb's tripwire.

we know warden very well, if the incident was related to warden it would of been obvious to us.

No I talk like I read what the devs say..

They stated many times.... Warden was NOT responsible for the recent banwave...

Thats not how it works. Warden isnt "spyware" its anticheat software, which is exempt from the classification of spyware under law. However Blizzard is limited to the scope of the memory space in which their game operates. It should be well known by now that the manner HB uses to operate is similar to the manner that non bot programs like VOIP stuff use when implemented as an overlay.

I dunno. Even security analysts and the Electronic Frontier Foundation (as well as other groups) have labeled Warden as spyware.

For those who don't know, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is an international non-profit digital rights group based in the United States.

Functionally it is spyware, legally speaking its anti cheat.

Yeah unless its proven otherwise. Until someone can prove Warden scans something other than what is allowed by law, we will have to deal with it. I don't like it, nor do I trust Blizzard.

Given how easy it is to track the activities of programs that scan your RAM and/or HDD, it would take all of a few hours for someone to put together a report if Blizzard was violating the law in that regard. Its more akin to trying to set fire to a band member in front of 50000 people, not punching a blind person when theres noone else for miles.
