Is there currently a way to let my bot switch characters when a desired amount of blood shards are obtained?
At the moment I am letting my wizard run greater rifts in order to gain fast blood shards, though I have to keep an eye on the amount of blood shards I have every now and then because I am trying to gear up a barbarian and have to manually spend shards on the barb.

Hmm, thought that it was possible if I'm not mistaken I did read somewhere about one that did function but that one was out of date. So I wondered if there's a similar but up to date.
Now I'm starting to doubt if I actually read the post correct :|

I think one of the old DB Trinity alternatives had a feature that was supposed to be a character swap, not sure if it ever worked right.

what exactly are you trying to get by gambling?

There is such a better chance to get what you want via the Cube. Just speed farm lower torment rifts.

As a wizard this is pretty easy since you can afford to use a Sage set with RRoG in the cube. Speed farm T1 with them to give you 2 DB per elite kill. Run nemesis bracers with speed gear for lower torment like avarice+boon of hoarder+gold wrap, warzechian armguards if you can fit it into the build. Wreath of lightning if not using wand of woh. etc. Let it run for a day straight and you will have tens of thousands of every material to use on your barb.
