So I'm working on leveling a Rogue, Warrior and Shaman (you can see the progress in my sig). Since I see ppl ask the question of what is the best/quickest/safest way to level, I figured I'd share my own personal findings. On a vanilla wow account I also chose to level a warrior through grinding alone.
I don't have all the raw numbers, but here is what I've experienced (not scientific):
From 1-60, questing is the way to go. It seemed to average the most xp/hr over doing BGs. Initially grinding looked to be the fastest, which I did on the vanilla WoW account but not surprisingly, I was banned before I hit 30 (made it to 28). I'm on a low pop server, but I did see a couple of ppl near me on a couple of occasions, so a player report is VERY possible. Once investigated, it was probably pretty obvious. I didn't even appeal it since i got the account for free and was just trying it out for comparison. YMMV, but it just doesn't seem as safe to me.
So from 1-60, the next question is probably, which questing profile did you use? Short answer...Kick's and Azenius. From 1-35, Azenius worked better for me hands down. I only had to attend to it twice. With Kick's, I couldn't seem to get more than a couple levels before having an issue. Since 35 though, I've been having a few more issues with Azenius and seem to get stuck every couple levels (only used up to 39)...but oddly enough from 40-58, Kick's did very well and I only had to interact with it a couple of times.
Again, based on what I've read during LOTS of research on these forums, it seems like a toss-up when it comes to the questing profiles and I'd venture to guess that 70-80% of the time it's actually an HB issue and not the profile itself. Also, note that I did not use a combination of Azenius and Kick's profiles on a single toon. I only used one or the other for that specific character, running Kick's twice (both times to 60) and Azenius once (to level 39, which I'll continue soon).
Now...once you get to 60, for me, things changed quite a bit. I ran BGs, Archa and the Questing profiles. By a LARGE margin, Archaeology is the winner. With the questing profile, I only get around 50-80k xp/hr and BGs I only get about 50-60k. With archa (done in EK), I'm easily getting 150-220k. We'll see how well this scales as I push further into 70 and 80. Add to that, Archa is MUCH more reliable for AFK. I've run it for about 65 hours over the last 72 hours and have yet to receive a ban, whisper, error, or disconnect (except for a server restart). I feel like grinding might rival Archa, but i just think Archa is safer. Also, Archa makes decent gold as well.
Once I hit 80, I'll try each of the methods again and report back. Just thought I'd share what I've 'learned'. I tried to do Archa in Outlands at 70 with the 280% mount, but died a bit to often. Going to try again at 80, as I feel like it will be a huge xp/hr increase.
Stay tuned.
