I'd like to get into botting in this game just for fun. I'm too lazy to grind to max level and some of the gear is insanely expensive (as people know). However I'd still like to enjoy some solid end-game without having to bother with constant grinds. So I thought of botting.

Honestly I wouldn't have expected that the devs of PoE would focus so much on banning bots or really do anything about them and it seems I am 'half right'. There's roughly 4 bans a month so far (as reported by users here). Most (if not all of them) are running multiple instances of the bot. I was thinking of getting into botting whilst Exilebuddy is kind of new, and Grinding Gear might not have proper detection methods set up (hopefully).

So what's botting in PoE like? Is it roughly the same chance as in WoW (slim unless you use a risky profile, but still there).
Just not sure I want to get a lifetime bot in PoE to find them smashing bot accounts down into the ground. I know the game is free but as another person said:

If you can't bot at least 8 hours everyday without getting banned like in the good days of HonnorBuddy/Gatherbuddy then it's not worth botting the game IMO.

So let's discuss this guys. How many bans have you got, and how ban-crazy do you think Grinding Gear is?
I'll probably end up getting Exilebuddy and just mixing in a good amount of actual legit gameplay with botted gameplay.

Peace

1) Exilebuddy is not new at all.
2) Higher risk than wow (more complex)
3) The guy who said this has no clue about botting in general.
4) Never banned, well I don't run more than 5 bot anyway. no point and I have no time.
5) This bot & game is awesome.

To be honest, most people that report being banned here do some stupid mistakes, like botting again on already banned IP and going 24/7

I bot 24/7, never been banned and am planning on buying another for the extra IIQ.

I'm sure we have more bans than reported, just because a lot of experienced botters know bans happen, and they don't usually post threads.

A lot of the bans come from RMT activity on the side, or accounts being linked to RMT activity and then taken down. People running more than one bot often see more bans if they aren't careful.

EB used to have some detection issues due to the way it was interacting with the client, but I rewrote it all. There's nothing else to change in the API to change the "detectability" rate of it; GGG doesn't waste time on that. They instead do server sided analysis where we can't change the way the data is processed. So for example, if you bot the same area 1000 times, they would know and there's no way to hide that, regardless of how you want to change up the way the bot works.

A lot of people slip though though, as some people have great luck and can run 24/7 whereas others run less and get caught once they start running 2+. There's no knowing what GGG looks at from the server sided, so it's all speculation. Your best bet is to give it a try, and see if it works out for you or not. There is a new massive update coming, and I would expect them to clamp down again on botting and RMT, so keep that in mind.
