Botting BGs in wotlk and cata was not really an issue, as there were lots of players on at all times.
Right now, certainly on the EU servers i've played on, its clear to see a sharp drop in player activity. In some of the smaller BG's there have been 2-3 active players per side late at night, it is getting out of hand even I will admit that, so you only have yourselves to blame if you are banned.
The safest option is AV, always has been, always will be. But that is still nowhere near as safe as a questing profile, you will be surrounded by players who will recognise patterns of behaviour and report you.
Safest>most dangerous = Questing > archaeology/professions/gathering > Grinding > PVP.
HB is really missing some pvp add-ons, like 1-5m spread from friendly units when moving in the same direction, target priority or assisting team-mates, and it needs some work on the BG profiles & path finding, these are the major things that give away bots aside from the lack of talking.
My advice would be to not bot in PVP at the moment, let this blow over, and then go back to botting once the dust has settled. Remember people think the good guys always win, once they see a major reduction in bots, and normality return, they will drop their guard and go back to being good little sheep.
Take care and botsafe!
