Is it worth making a new WoW Acct to protect my main?

I was thinking of doing this, but considering it HAS to be under the same name, lets go with a worst case scenario:

If my farmer were to get banned, they could technically ban my main acct too right?

So my question is is it worth to create and pay for another wow acct?


My farmer is currently ON my mains acct. i don't farm much but when i do its only TW herb mining and NOT for long periods of time.


what are you guys insight on this? what do you do?

It's my belief that the farming account only needs to have the same last name as the primary account - I may be wrong though. I know Blizzard have banned accounts with the same name before, but they will only do that after linking more than a name - credit card, ip, in game interaction, etc. There is more than one John Smith in the world for example, unless you have a very uncommon name there is a strong chance that there will be other people with the same name using battlenet. Usually they can link via IP addresses ( so don't use the same IP for both accounts, VPN for the farming accounts - although they are getting better at flagging VPNs now.

I'd like to hear other peoples thoughts on this though.

Why does it have to be under the same name, that sounds like it kinda defeats the purpose if they are linked in some way.

*The last name has to be the same if you wish to transfer characters - for example I'm buying a new account in a few days to transfer a druid of mine onto to turn into my farming toon, i believe only the last name has to be the same for the account transfer to work?

I have 2 accounts with totally different names lol One my real name, one some name I made up. I do different bot on each one so odds are if 1 gets banned the other wont (atleast shouldn't) When blizz asks about it just say its my brothers account

To clarify, the second name of both accounts you use is the same right? And have you ever transferred characters between them? I'd like to know if the second one I make to bot on has to be the same first name or not for me to be able to transfer a toon from my main account to it.
