Is it good to use VPN software?

VPN software basically just hides your IP. Is it better to use this when botting, just in the case you are caught you can say u got hacked and it looks legit. If i would have had this a week ago my main account would not be perma banned right now. Sadly lost 6 85s, millions of gold earned. And it was my main account. Starting all over from scratch now, but htats not the point of this. Do you think hiding your IP is good?

No, not necessarily. Hardware IDs still remain the same.

Sorry im not too smart on this type of stuff what do you mean?

I am asking this because i just got banned a few days ago and im kinda of weary to bot again because this account is attached on the same battle.net account as the banned one so they may be watching, and if i bot then get banned which i hope doesnt happen, i would like to say i got hacked by having this software

VPN's keeps you anonymous by changing your ip to a different location, however your hardware ID will be the same because you're still using the same hardware as you did previously. We don't know what exactly Blizzard monitors but a VPN would be better than nothing.

Is there any other way other than VPN to help protect myself?

There are no guarantees but using a different computer to what you play your main on will eliminate the problem about having the same hardware ID. I bot carelessly with no vpn, same hardware id and I have never been banned.

You can help protect yourself by botting carefully.

If you bot carefully and set everything up carefully you wont need a VPN (and they are a load of crap to because, they are slow, and only hide your IP) Its also to easily tell if someones using a VPN because if you use a ip address lookup it says the VPN name (on hotspot shield at least). What normal player hides behind VPNs?

Rather than wasting time on VPNs it would be better to set up the bot as best as possiable, since that is what I beleave to be the best way to avoid a ban.

The problem I see using VPN is one day in you California, tomorrow you are in New York. When the common player would be in steady location. At a point I remember blizzard been so intrusive they will actually notify you about different location activities in your account. For blizzard is more realistic a guy selling 50 stack of ore that connects from the same place over and over than a guy selling 50 stacks of ore that yesterday was in US and today is on Germany.

Got banned because i used VPN, was actually permanent ban. However i called Blizzard and they could see that i had been using a VPN and the ip-address was commonly used by "exploiters, gold sellers" and since i had never done any gold transactions on my account it was safe to unban me. (StrongVPN)

Well since you guys seem to be against VPN and i can understand why, what should i do to be more safe, because i was being safe "i thought". I was selling ALL of my items through COD in mail. But now i am scared to even bot at all. Like i did not even bot over night using Archeology which is very safe.

I use VPN but not because I bot. I use it for other reasons. I tend to get a decent amount of password recovery emails which is a pain in the ass but what can you do.

If you are at all worried about losing your account and the money associated with buying a new wow account and getting up to Cata then yes you shouldn't bot. Everyone that bots needs to understand that they can lose their account at any given time regardless of how safe they are.

Just my $0.02
