So this afternoon me and my family went to our cell phone carrier and setup a new line for my son. My son got his new S7 edge and created a new GMAIL account since he did not have one. As we were leaving the store he was downloading Pokémon Go and then logged in and started to catch Pokémon with his brother.
Fast forward almost 90 minutes, as we are now walking through the town center (mall area) my son is catching Pokémon on his new phone and then his phone prompted that there is an update available, my son applied the update and it reset his phone. When his phone restarts, he attempts to log back in he gets the Failed to get Data error, after an uninstall and reinstall of Pokémon Go he then receives the humbled server message. A few attempts later, the Failed to get Data error occurs again.
His phone is brand new (not refurbished), not on WiFi and is now what we consider banned. There was definitely not a bot involved, no rooting or GPS spoofing as it was a new account and it was his first time playing Pokémon Go. I also checked his phone to ensure it did not contain any other email addresses, etc... it was clean.
I have no idea what may have caused it to trigger or happen. We were only walking around the town center and it definitely did not attach to any WiFi either that was disabled.
It would be interesting if we all think these are bans happening and they have some other issue going on that is totally non-related, if it is related then Niantic has some really crappy ways to flag an account.
Just thought I would share.
