Well, its time to open secret doors. Blizzard has stepped up detection in a big way since the 5.3 patch. We have been investigating their activity on detection and taking our time to make sure we got everything right.

We didn't want to go public about this, because we thought they were targeting us directly. However, our latest finds shows that their new detection may affect other bots/tools. Therefore we highly suggest our community to not use any tools/hacks for WoW unless they have some kind of tripwire protection. You may forward the authors to us in case they need any assistance with the new detection methods.

We have our tripwire protection extended for the new detection and we've been providing protection through the auth servers since patch 5.3. We mostly covered their new detection attempts and will probably do a beta release today or tomorrow.

All the hate about delayed releases, I hope you guys understand why we delayed our 5.3 release and this hotfix release now.

Courteous, respectful, and transparent. Bravo! The moderators of this forum should take pointers from you, because they are an invocation of Godwin's Law waiting to happen. I get that some of the people around here get pretty unbearable at times, but you sir are a class act. Thank you very much for this.

Whats the tripwire stuff he is talking about? I tried to Google it but came up with very little. Do we need more protection? The way he worded it make it seem we need some sort of program on top of HB to prevent detection. Am i wrong?

My only question is, was the detection client side or server side.

IDK if it was transparent. It was a tad cryptic and only after about a month of the HB community crying for answers.

Who posted this? Who is Raphum? What is a tripwire and how do we get one?

Not sure.

Never heard of him.

It's something you put at the bottom of your front door when your mother in law comes to visit.

eBay.

I saw original post now, ty :).

Still though, how does this affect us and what is this tripwire thing we seem to need to get?

Thanks!

You don't need to get anything. The tripwire is code that monitors Blizz's code. If they change their code to look for the bot, it suppossedly triggers the tripwire and shuts down HB's Auth, thus kicking you off the bot. Although in my entire time using HB I have never seen that take place. So it may just be a ghost story.

No the tripwire is real, though it's designed to monitor warden updates, not the client itself. No idea if HB has extended this functionality to more than warden.
The idea is if warden suddenly updates to start scanning memory addresses the bot uses, everyone gets disconnected.

reason we never see it in action is because blizz hasn't used detection on the major bots in years now... they are relying on server side stuff. if it's true they are bringing it back, it's a major worry - big difference between losing an account for running GB2 weeks on end, and losing for trying out Singular on a training dummy for 10 min.

The new detection code is WoWclient-side, of course.

We're not going to hack into the Blizzard servers to find out what they're doing over there. :D

cheers,

Where I come from, nothing is real until there is proof, pictures, videos, dna evidence. Never had much faith in someone claiming something exhist that I can't see.

There is no server side detections as far as we know. There might be or not. Although, I doubt they would try to detect us via server side methods while they are brutally trying it from the client as its more accurate.

Did this arouse anyone else, in a geeky, creepy sort of way? :)
