my phenom is around a year or almost 2 years old do u guys think this is an improvement?

Does your current chip work, if so, something that's only a year or two old, really worth replacing and wasting money on?

Plus, without the exact current chip model, I can't tell the difference :P

ye my amd phenom works ok but i like the new fx amd and i have a good pc and internet and my graphics card is a asus atit 7950 direct cu 16 gigs of ram but sitl on some places in wow i have lag when i see streamers they have never lag i wil put a cooler on the cpu to to let it cool cold

The FX 8150 is a poor CPU. If you plan to run many bots, then it's OK because of the amount of resources but if you play games yourself (such as Battlefield for example) this processor is bad. A Intel Pentium dual core (sandybridge) can get more FPS than any Bulldozer CPU and is much cheaper.

I believe the AMD's piledriver is meant to come soon. Not sure about that, but it could be worth waiting since it will be a improvement over the Bulldozers.

AMD chips are bang for buck, Intel chips are pure bang. I have an i7 3770k SBE in mine, and I love it; but you can't expect everyone to have the cash to shell out for Intel chips. The AMD FX 8 core is sub $200 unless you get the top of the line FX.

EDIT: Also keep in mind that he can't just swap chipsets; the FX is the same socket as his previous processor.

Which Phenom do you have? It's been benchmarked that most of the Phenom Quad cores perform just as well in games as the AMD FX does.

I'm not suggesting anything really. I just said that the FX line is very poor in performance. And who said about shelling out huge money for a i7? A ?50 Pentium does most jobs better than that 8150...

The phenom line is actually more powerful in games and single threaded applications (so things like web browsing, Microsoft Word etc) than the FX Bulldozer. There are hundreds of benchmarks and reviews all over the internet supporting this. "Upgrading" from a Phenom to a FX is pointless (unless you can use all 8 cores, then it's another story)

Excluding the FM2/FM1 APUs all Intel processors in certain price points are better than what AMD can provide. AMD lost it's "bang for buck" title years ago.

Please do not buy an AMD. I have been through different generations of AMD and I can say for sure it is a waste of time. Cost wise, you might spend a few dollars more for an equivalent Intel processor. For example I had an AMD FX8150 and swapped it out for an i7-2600. The processor is about $150 more for Intel. But you are basically getting what you are paying for. Try the AMD on any CPU intensive game and you will see huge performance hits. I tried these CPUs with SWTOR when it first came out and I could not believe the performance increase with the i7.
