Hey peeps, was wondering if we had any Hunter guru's ? i'm wanting to know what the Best Hunter Pet for DPS ( PVE/PVP)

I'm not a hunter guru of any kind. But I always pick a wolf for the 5%+ crit (PvE).

hmm. all good info. just still stumped on which one i want.. i haven't played an hunter in a long while . seems as i will be switching pets alot depending on raid if that were the case

With hunter improvements switching pets on the fly is really easy now, and requires no cool down. You can have up to 5 pets to call from at one time, and you can store in the stables up to 20 pets, if I'm not mistaken. It's just a matter of dismiss and call one of the five you have stored. Easy peasy.

Like zeldrak said its easy to switch pets depending on the need at the time.

I've been using Marksman spec on my hunter so my pet almost becomes a non-issue. From what I saw, I could probably do a little bit higher combined DPS (hunter+pet) using Beastmaster, but the reality is that most ppl judge you on what DPS YOU produce and don't even look at the pet.

aka, when I was testing awhile ago (my gear was pretty crappy), in beastmaster spec, I was doing about 9k dps and my pet about 4k... a total of 13k. In the same gear but in Marksman spec, I was doing about 10-11k and my pet was doing about 1k - a total of 11-12k, a little lower total then I was doing beastmaster... AND YET... people saw MY dps and I got zero complaints... unlike the few times when I was beastmaster and ppl would point out my dps was <10k... Yep, it was... but if me and my pet left, that would have been a drop of 13k (again - yes that is low too, crappy gear - just an example)

So... at the end of the day, when it comes to instances, I don't even care what my pet dps is... in PvP, that's different of course, cause then it's not only what dps they can do, but other effects as well... can they effect the play of the target?

My choices, as I main a hunter.

1st: Wolf = 5% crit
2nd: Cat = 549 Str. and Agi.
3rd: Raptor = 12% armor debuff
4th: Hyena = 30% bleed dmg debuff
5th: Ravager = 4% Physical Vulnerability

If you are SV as of 4.3 it is the best dps spec, and some say the the Dragonhawk and Wind Serpent are best 2 pets = 8% spell dmg increase. (I haven't tested)
I don't pvp much but the best is a spider for trapping the enemy or a devilsaur for BM.
