Is it possible to make much gold on a server with barely any players?

It is like 20-40 lvl 85s online at once on the server I want gold on.
And about same amount of players 1-84.
It is maybe 50-100% more players on horde side, but still not many.

Is it possible to earn gold on that low populated server somehow? barely any "customers" so very hard, not much competition though.
Also the competition that sell glyphs sell them at a low price (50g or less...) and it is barely any mats on ah (40-100g / stack of mats that normally go for 20-25g).

I am not sure how to get gold, best way might be to bot materials + keep auctions up and refresh them once every 1-3 hour or so.

On the other server I play on I get ~1500 to 4000 gold per hour. That server have 20 times as many players though.

Got 4000 yesterday in 1 hour at ~17:00. 3500 in 1 hour later at the night. 2000 gold in 1 hour now (not many players online atm).
Made 0g in ~1 hour on the low pop server... Didnt have to repost auctions at all during that time.

I know I could transfer a guild to the server with gold, would probably be the most efficient way, but I dont want to do that.

Got the same issue atm - but I am currently stacking up on lowlevel mats + current 85 mats, as when MoP is going to hit the streets, the increase of plays is going to skyrocket as with every expansion set. It's all about patience atm really... My estimates is atm I will skyrocket to 1-2 million gold once MoP hits due the multiple bank chars filled with mats.. :)

Typically, one thing that sells well on low pop realms is leveling mats, as everyone provides end-game prof mats, but people still need to level up profs, so things like Netherweave, Frostweave, Outland and Northrend ores, Herbs, all of these sell well. Fishing also generates decent income, as well as cooking, as typically there will be not enough fishers and chefs to cook and fish for all.

I don't mind being on the low pop side of a low pop realm. The only thing you have to do is control (or do your best) every market. Glyphs, gems, enchanting mats, raw mats, leatherworking, pets and all mats needed to level professions. I make roughly 20-40k per day without much effort since as soon as someone tries to get in on one of my markets, I kill the price and drive them out. Who cares if you have to sell items for next to nothing, it's all botted mats to me. It's a LOT easier on low pop as opposed to high pop realms with AH bots and shit going 24/7. It's even good knowing I have a really low chance of getting reported on my farming accounts, since there is at most 3 people in places like Uldum at peak times lol. Only downside is I had to transfer one of my toons to buy some DS and Fl raid mounts and achieves.
