hey guys

Currently this is my PC

i7-950 @ 3.07Ghz
GTX 480x2 SLI
6GB RAM

Running Win7 64

I want to get some more ram, (hopefully thats enough)?

I just rung my pc shop and they have about 8GB kit available

so thats a total of 14Gig

The heaviest load ill run is 4 x Vms with 1 bot on each and playing my main at the same time, Id prob allocated 2gig to each VM so thats 8 Gig just for the Vms)

Then that leaves 6GB for the host

How does that sound? Im hoping this will improve the performance, I tried running just 2 Vms with D3+DB and it cant handle it

Your ram config won't be in dual channel mode anymore if you do that though

What type of MB do you have ? If you're using a 1st generation I7 (the 950) you might have a 6 ram slot MB which supports 4GBs per slot. You can get ram cheap at newegg or other places. Also ram won't be the issue. 4 VMs will be a heavy load on your PC even with a 950 I would recommend an h100 and overclock that 950 for increased performance.

Off topic but the 480s are shit and this is from personal experience I went from a 6850 to a 480 with no performance increase with D3 so I returned it a week later and paid 20$ more for a radeon 7850 and wow. Just numbers wise 5 D3 windows on 1 480 took 95% GPU Load 5 D3 windows on a 7850 take 31%. If you're running 2 480 GTXs without water cooling it must be really hot inside your case the 480s for me ran at 60-65c with 20% fan speed at 0 load which is absurd you have to run the fan at 50-65% 24/7 to keep them cool while the 7850 with 5% fan speed runs at 40c with 0 load and 55c with 70% load.

My Mobo is a Gigabyte X58A-UD3R

Currently I have 3x2gig sticks and 3 slots spare

Im currently on tripple channel mode

What if I buy another 3 sticks and fill them all up would that make any difference in channeling?

I have a good case for the GPU's yes they do get hot, but I cant afford to upgrade my Graphics cards just for botting for now

If running 4 Vms is still too much and my PC cant handle it, I will just run 2 clients on one windows user and 2 clients on 1 VM

or 4 on one user

Should I just buy an additional 3x4gig sticks and full up all the ram slots making it 18GB ?

Thanks

I would be using the same on every ram slot

Id be just getting the same ram but just filling up the 3 available slots I have

Atm I got

Kingston HyperX Ram 2000mhz 6GB (2GBx3stick)

Will get the same but another 3 sticks with 4gb each or so

Your current rig should be able to handle it. If it can't something is wrong.

Those 2 vms +3x diablo +2x diablo should fit in nicely into 6 gb. If not, then it isn't the ram's fault, because it is enough.

Even in a VM enviroment you need around 1.5gb ram and not more for a complete package. I set it to 2gb, because I have enough. My old machine would need 4.5gb of ram for 4x D3+4xdb (no VM's). That is what I meant with your ram is not at fault here.
