How much difference does Gold Find make?

Just curious as to how much difference Gold Find makes?

For example, I am running about 240% GF on most of my characters. I am debating upgrading my gear to about 300% GF, but am wondering the difference it would actually make.

Taking in account I am already running about 20% MS, and 35-40 Pick up radius.

Is it worth it to spend 10M buying top notch GF, compared to spending 2-3 mil on decent GF?

The difference between 240% and 300% GF will cost you around 100 million. It'll take you at least a month before you break even, and that's not counting the fact that in a month, those 100m will be worth less.
Not worth it imo, unless you manage to scoop some really cheap items (GL with that).

EDIT: Hold on to that gold and see if it'll be worth it to just switch to MF and sell gear on the RMAH.

My 2c.

It is quite expensive to have top notch but is worth it, I have maxed out GoldFind and 42 Pick up Radius with a Barbarian with Sprint Perma on I'm getting 495k per hour. before Pickup Radius and 300+ gf I was getting 290k. It kind of does a difference, I had to pay between 1-6m per piece though, but I guess is worth it in my personal opinion.

Toney beat me to posting, and ye it cost more than 10m so will be even worse than I wrote.
Also I think you probably made a mistake buying those items ninjatuna, although it is really awesome gph you have and it was a huge increase (depends on if it was really all on those items though, or if it was your build / DB updates and various other things).

(Think I am thinking correct but I could always make mistakes)

There is several things to take into consideration.

First 240% compared to 300% = you get 17.65% more gold. (if I counted right, just 400 / 340)
So you get 17.65% more gold.
If you had 250k / hour before then you get 294k / hour. A increase of 44k.

If it cost 2m to buy the cheap gear and 10m to buy the expensive gear, then it is a difference of 8m.

To pay back 8m gold with 44k gold per hour it takes:
8000 / 44 = 181.81 hours
So about 182 hours to pay back that gold, 7.57 days at 24/7 or 15.15 days at 12 hours a day.

Also if you are selling gold it is way different.
Just for example: (made up numbers)
You sell gold for 2.2$ per million right now.
In 1 week maybe the price would drop to 1$ per million and in 2 weeks maybe 0.5$ per million. (i have no idea what prices will be)

So the money that you could have sold for 17,6$ is maybe worth 4-8$ when you made the gold back.

Because of the decay of prices it makes using gold quite bad until the prices have stabilized I think, but then it will barely give anything to bot. It is also a high possibility that MF or DPS gear will be better during 1.0.3.

Yeah, I believe you're doing the math for just ONE item and not the whole set. You actually have to do the math for EVERY piece, because that one 8m piece won't get him from 240% GF to 300%, but that should be enough to show that it's really not worth it.

TLDR: If you can spend 10m on a 250% GF set, or 100m on a 300% GF, go with 250%. It'll be more profitable for the forseeable future (of the value of gold).
Chances are we'll all be switching to MF gear soon enough.

Ye, just used his numbers.

Yeah but a top tier upgrade would only get him ~4-5% GF over a mid tier item, so doing 8000 / 44 won't work. It'll take him a LOT longer to pay it back.
