I think I might have been reported today, several hours later I was banned. Do gms usually look into reports and investigate that fast. I had 3 dks all in the same guild running into a wall and wouldn't stop moving for a few minute and some one saw me. Are all your toon's past movements recorded on like surveillance tape or something, can the gm actually track your toon's movements in the past?

I would imagine player reports follow a slightly faster timeframe when comparing to help tickets, because of the amount of worthless:legitimate reports that must go through it. If you're reported multiple times it moves you up the list until the server just automatically bans you. GM's are also physical creatures, and can move around in the game hidden to the common folk. For instance, if you tell them about glitch in a game object or something they'll usually come to look at it. I asked them once about a tabard visual bug and some tauren that had its image burned into a city for a week, and they told me there were there with me, watching ominously. It's likely they do this to notice how you move around, there have been reports of GMs just teleporting you random places, and sometimes they can straight up talk to you.

Server side detection is done through the game collecting data on you. Your location, how long you've been doing something at that place, and god knows what else is recorded. The game likely has a similar flagging system, and automatic banning if you're going too nuts with things like the auction house, you've been farming for 5 days straight, moving in place for hours, ..etc.

from my experience you should expect reaction to report in between 12 and 48 hours

Normally around a day or two. Had a case when i senior GM talked to me no sooner than 4 min after i filled out a report on a speed hack/no clip bot. (before i started botting myself)
