Just by farming mines/herbs all day? I can only make a few hundred gold a day doing it...please tell me your ways.

I make almost 20k by farming herbs, i suggest you move server.
 
Have you ever heard of the term "trade secret" ??

Almost no one will share their most valuable trade secret that make them extremely rich to other people mainly due to competition.

However some of us are nice enough to offer some help :D

There're many factors that impact how much you make gold even with honorbuddy.


Factors:

Sever. Each server is different from each other and selling raw mats is ideal while some servers is high demand in crafted item. As for my server, crafted item only worth 10 gold higher than raw mat so crafted is pretty out of the picture for that server.

Trade Skill Master (TSM for short) is your friend. This addon is perfect to let you know which item is high demand and it will show you the difference on the price of the mat and the profit of crafted item.

Some players send their raw mats to other alt to craft it into items that is high in demand.

Thats the first thing that came to my mind: Your server sucks :)

HOWEVER,

Higher populated server: Mats sell more but gold per item might be lower than expected. Will encounter other botters that might use the same profile paths you're using.
Lower populated sever: Higher gold per item but difficult to sell. Fewer botters and might never encounter them while farming.

Solution: Medium populated server. Prices are not quite as high as a low populated server but the demand is still pretty high.
 
I'm on a high-pop server, with 2 accounts farming herbs+ore almost 24/7 (one has /played at this level of 6 days, and dinged 85 6 days ago :p). I use a third char for shuffling the mats into stuff that in my experience is easier to move on the AH and fewer people sell it. I make about 40k/day doing this, but I'm not always able to move everything I make each day.
Another problem is that due to me undercutting and supplying the AH the way I do, prices on my mats have fallen about 25% over the past week. Sucks, but as long as it sells fast I don't complain :D
So now I have to figure out who to sell it all to, as I'm making a ton more than I need.

But bottom line is to find a decent server, find your niche in the market where stuff sells well, and hope you don't get banned. It might take some tries to find the right server, but it's worth it in the end (if you're doing it for selling).
 
I played the AH when cata first came out and tried again when each new raid content patch hits but I always seem to fall back to selling to private buyers. My friend and I both use HB to farm and sell herbs and ore. But he sells on the AH and that means he gets 20-50% more per stack but where he is limited as to how much he can post at one time I can sell 10k+ gold worth of mats a night to a private buyer. When your on just keep an eye out on trade chat for someone saying they want to buy all you have and cod everything. I pst someone and now I just farm ore every night and he buys them for 100g a stack even though the stacks on our server sell for 120-150g. The key to making gold isn't catching the right stuff at the right price. It's about moving as much product as you can. Now before this post gets flamed I must tell you that there are other ways to squeeze out more gold but that requires you to actually be in game and spend your own time making items. I spend about 20min a day setting up my bot and mailing mats and still make 10k+ a night with only gathering professions.

If I get 60g for a stack of Twilight Jasmine I thank my lucky star. More often than not, herbs go around 15-25g/stack, ore is 30g-ish except Pyrite which is 75g or so. I wanna come to your realm :>
 
On my EU server, i can get 120-160g for a stack of Obsidium stack, 90-120g for a stack of Elementium, 90-120g for a stack of Twilight Jasmine and 50-80g for a stack of random Cata herbs :D

Hm... How much are you able to move pr day? I am able to move the total collected amount from about 40 hours (one account 24/7, one approx. 16/7) every day, so I still make decent amounts of money. But if I were able to move the same amount for 3 times the gold... Hello, new realm!
 
A private buyer is just a single person who keeps buying what ever it is they are looking for. Me for example I have a private buyer who wants all the stacks of elementium ore that I can farm. We agreed on the set price of 100g a stack and I let my bit farm it and only it for 15 hrs a day then I mail everything cod to him.
