I've been botting around 12 hours every day with decent leg drops an hour. My DH is currently at 700k dps and 7 mil toughness. I'm not sure how just about everyone I've seen on here is at 1.3 mil or higher dps. Should I switch characters or is this just me being a noob?

Elemental damage is the way to go. Stop caring about sheet dps..

Not to mention those with those levels of damage probably sacrifice a lot of toughness to achieve it

1. Stick with a "spender" skill and roll it on boots/other pieces (I'm only familiar with Wizards) until it's perfect. Ex: my wiz is mainly using Arcane Torrent, so I rolled +15% Arcane Torrent damage on my boots, +15% Arcane Torrent damage on my hat, and 15% Arcane Torrent damage on my source, too.

2. Elemental damage, elemental damage, elemental damage. I have +20% Arcane Damage on my neck piece, +20% on my bracers, Andrial's +20% Arcane, +20% Arcane Stone of Jordan, +15% from Gesture of Orpheus, and a +10% Triumverate. I have +105% raw Arcane damage, and that Gesture rolled almost perfect on dps, so my arcane torrent is doing 573% weapon damage, plus 45% base damage from my hat, boots, and source, plus 105% from my elemental stuff. So my Arcane Torrent is doing 618% weapon damage + the modifier for Arcane Damage, and I'm not sure how that's calculated, but I know it's a lot and I kill things fast.

3. Make sure that your Paragon Points are being spent correctly. For literally every build that I've seen, +Crit Damage is going to outweigh anything else for sheet DPS, and I think for actual DPS, too. There's just not a lot that beats a +50% boost to every crit you make. So when I crit, I'm doing 723% weapon damage + crit damage, which I'm sitting at 400% right now, with 40% crit.

My sheet DPS without buffs is just under a million, my toughness without buffs is about 4.5 mil, and I can bot Torment 3 and literally melt anything that comes at me. I also have a Coutness Julia's Cameo, which makes Arcane Enchanted into an actual healing method, so I was able to get rid of a lot of toughness-gear. I'm trying to a good Blackhorn set so that all the nasty ground effects null, too. Just need three good pieces (boots, pants, chest probably?) and a Ring of Royal Grandeur.

gotta say DH cluster arrow with 120%+ fire dmg right now is pretty insane

I am doing 1.2mil sheet dmg but I also have stacked 105% fire dmg. My cluster do around 30mil and I almost have infinity of hatred because of my build and other gear affix.

I'm in a similar position and 'do elemental damage' or 'buff spenders' is not really the answer to his question.
The people with these 'beast' numbers have 1 mil + dps WITH elemental damage. I'm floating at about 600-700k dps if I sacrifice some toughness, less if I pop on Julio's cameo - this is with my hours of legendaries and no elemental damage (except for 20% or so on pieces that happen to be good and have them) I've saved the best gear I have for Cold, Fire, and lightning damage for my monk and can get up to 80% or so in each- and so far (with tests from ghom) they aren't able to compete with just a straight up no-elemental gear build simply because the gear isn't as good. Something as little a 1% less crit chance (and with some of the elemental damage pieces, lack of crit or crit damage) can make a HUGE difference in both sheet dps and in tests with ghom. Some people have better drops than others. I'm in full legendaries myself, but keep getting drops that need 2 stats changed to be able to raise my dps - I occasionaly will find an item that will give a small dps upgrade (<30,000) a by sacrificing a couple million toughness. I'm just not comfortable with less than 250k health.

higher dps the more that 3% dmg boost is. currently I have a mil sheet dps, 100% arcane dmg, 30% distingerate dmg, 40% dmg to elites needless to say mobs die fast but yea toughness is crap 2.5m lol

1. Dont care about vitality. Sure it boosts thoughness a lot, but this is only a sheet stat, it doesn't help in the game. Look to have around 300-350k hp. Get vit only on chest/legs/shoes.
2. Trifecta gloves/rings/amulet. Means Mainstat + Crit + Critdmg + Attackspeed
3. Always a weapon with socket for green gem. (Critdmg)

The highest dmgboost is crit+critdmg.

does this apply to other classes ? like crusader for example

Sitting at 1.4 Mill Dps, 63% Arcane Damage + 44% arcane Torrent Damage with 431% Crit and a 61.6 Crit Chance.

j/k

Jokes aside, Crit, Attack Speed, Crit damage + a Primary Element and Skill. Like what I listed above. You can tell I use Arcane as mine, So I stack Arcane Damage + my Primary Arcane skill (Minus Archon)

This applys to all classes yes. Especially the vitality thing. Vitality doesn't make you survive, armor and allres does.
But the question was how people get high dmg, not how people can run high torment.

Of course, if you want to run high torment you also need to be tanky. But even if you need to be tanky, the points I mentioned above are still valid.
How to get tanky is a bit more complicated because it depends on the class. For Barb and Crusader you should aim for a 3 socket chest and 2 socket legs and put in diamonds for allres. Wizard gets allress with int, so he doesn't need diamonds. Monk gets allres with singleres items and his passive. But there is a lot more that plays into getting tanky.

If someone has really high sheet DPS ATM it's probably because they've been stacking the old trifecta. Best chars ATM ignore attack speed in favor of cooldown reduction but you always need crit hit + crit damage and getting the right items there make a big difference. Not to mention special legendaries like "Witching Hour" for belt.

CDR isnt a issue for me, I prefer Attack speed for the Arcane Regen via Prodigy Passive.

I'm not sure myself, and i'm running a Crusader.

right now sitting on 1,092,092 DPS with 7,498,912 toughness, and 16,932 healing. My on-hit healing is about 5812.

I cannot seem to do anything about Torment III reliably with the bot, but playing manually I can do Torment IV games in a group. I'm generally the tank in Torment IV games, or at least I'm the meatshield that holds stuff back long enough to get melted before I run into potion-reuse timer issues.

That being said, I've noticed that Crusader crit-burst DPS just cannot compete with Wizards or WD sustained DPS. I watched a Wizard with 1.2million sheet dps (only 200k more than me) with 4mill toughness ROLL through Torment VI mobs like it was nothing to him. He wouldn't tell me how he set his character up but after reading about sheet dps + elemental damage I now see why. He was using nothing but electric and arcane attacks so I assume he's electric or arcane focused?

The bot also doesn't consider the Crusader to ever be a "ranged" build....ever. Even with long range attacks like Justice (hammer thrower) coupled with Fist of Heavens my character still runs into melee range before throwing his 65meter hammer (literally off-screen range).

I'm going to assume a "Holy" focused build for Crusader is going to be the best thing here for Crusaders, as we get a passive that heals you for 1% hp per time you deal "Holy" damage. So making all of your attacks "Holy" based, and focusing on +% holy damage couple with Primary + CritC+ CritD + AttackSpeed or Primary + CritC+ CritD + Holy would probably be the best bet here.

I think most people summed it up, Sheet dps is crap. The true dps is within elemental and + skill damage. I pull 1.1m dmg and 7.8k toughness in game with magic weapon/sparkflint/energy armor. But I have a 20% arcane soj with 28% elite dmg, %19 aughild bracers int vita 6% crit(2pc -7% dmg from melee/ranged attacks.... 3pc bonus +15% dmg to elites, -15% dmg from elites) 20% ouroboros necklace 740+ int 9.5% CC 87% CHD. Then move onto cains boots/gloves for 2pc 7% IAS and the ring of grandeur allowing me to hit its 3pc bonus for 50% MF/EXP(not really a dmg one, but I prefer it). Without this gear on, My archon will do 15m crits. WITH this gear on, My archon crits for nearly 40m. I am still working out the kinks trying to get arcane torrent damage on my shoulders/boots, once I do I should be better. I don't yet use magic missile due to I have mykos ball of hate and that helm that doubles the amount of targets it hits from 2 to 4(with surge of power rune and 8APoC I get my AP back fast as hell now, though not really needed since arcane torrent is relatively cheap spender. But hitting 4 targets and being able to chain the for 4 same ones over and over for hits thanks for both items is 4 AP extra alone with +5 from Prodigy so when I open on with electrocute I can go 0 to 124 in literally a second. Once I find a mirrorball I will go magic missile conflag while I still dream of finding this source let it be 1 or 2 extra MM, along with a tfury and 3pc tal rasha set for that amazing 4pc bonus.

I just recently switched back from a 2k dps wizard spike(25% chance to hurl frozen orb) back to my 2.4k dps fuliminator because of the noticable Forb dps drop, and it allowed me to rid myself of Cold Blooded for Unwavering Will or better. Jotd covered the hp part too, Having like 600 or 800k hp to boost your toughness 5+ mil is nothing, its fake EHP/toughness. Toughness is armor, all resists, 300-400k hp imo. Trifecta gloves/amulet is a must, Rings too. Jewelry isn't always the easiest to get trifectas on especially when its a unique. Luckily we can now reroll to get closer to trifectas or hit them dead on. But even if you can't yet get trifecta, Having say 6%% CC and 40-50% CHD on a ring is going to be better then 500 vita or 15% life. Never ever reroll an item that has crit or CHD for another stat, only reroll it if your trying to roll the stats UPWARDS.

Anyone have a shard of hate that can elaborate on it for wizards? I hear alot of barbs saying its the best ever, We can't proc the poison on it so are just the other 2 good enough dmg compared to a thunderfury?

Anyone got a fitting Barb build for me with items that can be found/crafted within 1 or 2 weeks?

Currently ~400k life and 400k damage (started this account 10 days ago from zero....)

Which stats you use for paragon reward?attack speed? aoe damage? strength?

i wanna do maps like legendary road on torment1 - but not possible with the rare/blue packs....

Is there a calculator that factors actual damage and not just sheet?
