I just read an article on MMOwned from Aphel, and i thought it was quite interesting.
Bot Bans on the Rise: Possible Banwave?
Honorbuddy/Gatherbuddy, a popular botting platform for World of Wacraft, has long been hailed as the most well coded subscription-based public bot on the market. Boasting a large user base, the duo of programs automatically mine herbs, bot battlegrounds, heal and DPS instances, grind, and complete quests.
Ban reporting incidence has increased greatly since last week, and the Honorbuddy forums are abuzz with wild speculation regarding a possible banwave.
Clusters of users on both US and EU servers have been banned within recent days for use of the program. Many users on the forums suspect that Blizzard is randomly picking from a pool of reported botters each week, banning a certain number on the US and EU servers to avoid a total, pre-emptive shutdown of the Honorbuddy servers in defense against possible detection.
There is no evidence that Honorbuddy or Gatherbuddy are currently detected on Warden, but that could change any time. As with all bots, hacks, and "third-party programs", Honorbuddy is against the ToS, and anyone caught using these programs will be banned. It is important to remember that once you begin using a bot, hack, or ToS-breaking program, your account could essentially be banned in an instant.
Player reports are the cause of the majority of botting bans. Blizzard also does ritual scans of the auction house for suspected botters' products. If the player floods the AH with an unnatural amount of goods, it is likely that Blizzard will investigate the account further.
Being banned for "exploitation of the economy" is one of Blizzard's favorite reasons for permanent closures and account suspensions. Players who flood vendors or the AH with farmed goods may receive a temporary or permanent ban, depending on the individual judgment of the GM.
There is no reason to suspect that Warden has automatically detected Honorbuddy and Gatherbuddy, and both of the programs have strong Warden defense systems. This doesn't mean, however, that they are undetectable.
By no means has there been any indication that a banwave is in place. Be cautious. We will update this post as more information is made available.
