I have a Lightning Strike Ranger that is fully geared doing amazing DPS, and have been leveling farming the dried lake. I have been sitting at 80 for a few days and cannot seem to go up in level.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Could it be the way I have my skills set up? Could it be the zone I am farming? Any help?

I am really trying to get this character to 90 with the bot, but have been stalling..

Definitely the zone.

Dried lake is cool to get to 80, but after that, a single random death caused by bullshit (thanks ggg) is worse than spending 2 hours grinding.

You should consider run 70-72 maps, those are neat for leveling to 90, make sure to blacklist everything that could cause endless deaths (dunno, equilibrium, smothering iirc etc.etc.)

Thanks for the advice! I sent you a PM inquiring more in depth.

i mean i leveled a char from 70-88 strictly off dried lakes, you need to roll your flasks and have capped resistances.

make sure you get divine flasks and roll instant recovery on them w/ quality

spec into more life nodes and get more life in your gear . you're better off 2-3 shooting packs instead of getting merked by a white skeleton

another layer of defense is a chicken plugin!

IMO, ingredients for success for any attack based character are:

- Leech or life on hit or both. Having both warlord's mark and poacher's mark (fast hitting character) put up a ton of sustain, which leads into the next point
- 1 or 2 seething flasks. I always have a seething as well as bubbling. Coupled with FlaskHelper for use of granites etc makes the bot incredibly durable where it shouldn't be due to reflexes.
- Having a nice life pool is essential so it has at least a second to pop a flask. Getting one shot by shit is the bane.
- Use Flicker strike as ST range attack to get into melee range instantly. I have mine set 35 range and melee attack is 20. The only problem is very rarely will you run into an issue where it is trying to range target something but cannot flicker to it, so it sits there. Only ever seen it happen once.

I comfortably hit 89 with viper strike/splash running 75/76 maps and blacklisting maps that had stuck issues as well as some boss rooms. The difference between dried lack and 75 maps for exp is significant enough that if you can, it is worth it.

Main thing I'd say that affects bot survivability is flasks, mobility, sustain, health and durability.

DPS doesn't matter if you die too frequently. Dial back on the DPS a bit and finds way to increase survivability. This is especially important when running into Bonspire talisman mobs or those packs that leave a delayed bomb when they die. Bot cannot see ground based nasty shit, so the better you can survive them, better off you'll be. I like to use Voll as a yard stick for testing how survivable the character is. If it can tank voll smashes (IE not get one shot and have enough flasks/sustain to get back up to full health fast enough) it is ready for mapping.

I know this situation. It gets even worse after 87-88 lvl. All because GGG adds new asinine mobs with each league, like the purple packs, now talisman mobs with unavoidable spike dmg and so on.
Also because EB still cannot properly implement "kite" function which is a must for ranged chars (EB's main competitor has this function btw). I only do white maps without any mods and my ranged char is still dying sometimes, on some occasions even chicken plugin doesn't prevent from losing exp. When I play manually i can clear these maps also i can clear high lvl modded maps w/o any deaths with ease, because i can use kite, which is impossible with EB.

You kind of went a bit off topic with that post. We all know too well the limitations of the bot, the question is how you get around them to achieve as deathless a run as possible. It is actually possible to build face-tanking characters or respec/re-gear your character for survivability. And I can confirm it is possible to hit 90+ with EB.

Hey Casuther, incase you come back, got a couple of questions about your LS Ranger. I've never been interested in LS since they made it so mele modifiers only affect the strike and projectile modifiers only affect the bolts. What's your gem set up and how are you finding it?
