What is better to buy mats and craft whatever u can and make profit out of it or farm?
I'm asking because since it's a high populated server you got a lot of people/bots farming which increases the chance of getting reported while if you are crafting 10hrs/day nobody will ever report you if you go and do it in non populated area for example?

What do you do on high populated servers?

If your server has so many ppl farming Cata ore and herbs that you can high five someone at each node you land on, it's probably a good idea to look at other markets. That may be a little extreme but if the market or the farming has too much competition, look elsewhere. As an example - how about Northrend or Outland? Many times on a high pop server, the latest and greatest is saturated, but not so much for the previous expansions. The same holds true for many of the crafted items... if the ore is dirt cheap, many times people craft for very on those items as well. The best thing you can do is spend some time on your AH and even better, on TUJ and check out what your server does over time. The AH is just a snapshot, TUJ gets it's data every hour and you can even spot weekly trends - when the ore peaks on average, when it's lowest... you can even buy low and sell high... or buy at it's lowest and craft from that...

Just some things to look over... Good luck with it!

Well the ores on my server hardly go above 27-28g and even on that price i can make at least 80 % profit, for example the last time I bought about 1200 stacks of ores for about 30k gold or so and I made like 60-70k out of it. But still I am not convinced that any decent amount of gold can be made in Outland or Northrend since they are no longer hot sellers, the only ppl that will buy old mats are the ones that are leveling professions.
On the other hand if you are farming you can sell your mats in the blink of an eye. While prospecting/crafting/disenchanting 1200 stacks can easily take like 2 days.. (if you are not doing it 24/7).

Note that I haven't even tried to farm something on my realm yet (but it's High populated and I often see 300-400 or more stacks of ores in the AH even thousands sometimes) I'm just gathering all the info I can before I get in these waters.

I started playing the other faction on a high populated server 5 weeks ago and got 1 dk 85 with full mining + engineering and 1 druid 85 with full skinning.
It costed me 0g to skill engineering because i famred ores while i lvled and used it to skill engineering and the rest i sold or made into bars depending on profits.
I dont farm mining because its to many that farm that already so i decided to skill skinning and farm that.
I have farmed skinning for 2 weeks in obsidian forest (twillight highlands) 6-8 hours a day and made ~100k+!

Yeah, I've been thinking about Skining aswell and even farmed some manually from what I farmed by my calculations (manually!) I can make at least 1,5k per hour.

Tony or other Admin... I just re-read the Forum TOS... I don't see anything that says I shouldn't post a link to other helpful sites... but if there's something I missed, please remove the link... thanks!

The Undermine Journal - It's a great place to check out what your server's AH is selling, the price it's selling at (over the last couple of weeks) and even compare servers... You can probably tell, I use it just a little bit... lol You will note, it's 100% free and I'm just sending you to the site ;)

WoW thats a nice site man, Will Help alot to check AH (others Server) without login into thm

BTW - even if 'old mats' don't sell well, I can guarantee that all leather sells - new, old, really old... so it one market saturates, fly to an older zone and skin there. Watch for markets that have a hard time meeting demand... rugged leather seems like one that I spotted while leveling my leatherworking... knothide leather may be another... rugged was selling at 250% on my server cause supply was low.

Awesome website, now i can see my statistic and maybe change it for more profit :D

I'm surprised... I would have figured that most ppl here would be familiar with that site... guess not...

How is that?

Prospecting all the ores selling zephyrites, ocean sapphires, dream emeralds and amberjewels to the vendor (aint bothering to cut them). With all the rest I craft Carnelian Spikes, Hessonite Bands, Nightstone Chokers, Alicite Pendants and jasper rings and disenchant them all. In the end... Shit load of greater celestial essences 200 inferno rubys..

You make more profit DE all stuff (spent Carnelian on Spikes) or Transmute all Carnelian?

i love selling cobalt ore and fel iron ore and old school herbs and such for crazy profit compared to cata...but offloading it is tedious...usually u can farm in a day what will take you at least a week to sell, probalby much longer.but, its defenitly something that i do....farm this one day - stockpile, farm that the other - stockpile...then spam ah for profit...it gets annoying when mats dont sell, but you decreace the chance to get caught botting too...

I hope you are using TradeSkillMaster (WoW plugin) to post your auctions... then you can just click once to load them up and then rapidly click to post them all within a couple of mins... ;)

Or bind your wheel on the mouse to do the clicking for you so all it takes is a quick spin with the index finger :D

But that's what my taunt macros are set to?! Oh noes!!!!
Lol anyways you just need to look at the AH/TUJ and see what's happening. My single US server I was on I made a killing in straight ores and herbs, but leveled an alchemist and increased herbing profit by 200%. Yes I actually did the math. 2 weeks of selling mat, 2 weeks selling alchemist stuffs.
Plus you gotta look for the little things people need.

Carnelian on Spikes definately!!!!! Much more profit, you can get 2-3 Greater Celestials per spike (75 % chance for essence, 25 % chance for dust)

it's funny how research pays off ;D
i mean, on my server.. savage leather sells for 90g a stack, but heavy savage leather (req. 5 savage leather to make 1) sells for 900g..
elementium ore's sells for 20g a stack, bars sells for 80 :D
ussualy old content mats sells the best, 100-150g pr. stack of cobalt ore and fel iron ore goes for around 100g aswell :P
