Help for the safer botters...

Hi there,

I'm wondering if anyone can help. I consider myself to be a safe botter and by that I mean I only bot whilst I'm in the same room as the computer so that I can see what's happening or If I'm actually sat at the computer doing some other stuff. Anyone who says it's safe to just leave your bot running whilst you are away is just plain lying... you may have got away with it for now but the ban hammer will soon hit. There are some things you need to deal with physically, such as your bot getting stuck in a really busy area so everyone can tell you're up to something, running into the same corner of a doorway for 5 minutes really doesn't look good...

I'm sure we all know the situation... You check on WoW to see a player stood right next to you, targeting you and just watching you (probably considering reporting you). There have always been those kind of player who think they're clever maybe get a buzz out of finding and reporting a bot. It can even be a player on their flying mount above you so you don't even see them without looking. This can be really dangerous so that's why I like to monitor my botting. In situations like this I might /emote them, say Hi or just turn off the bot and start jumping around and look more natural until they go away. It's a horrible feeling that there are players out there to get you and will waste their own time by watching you like some detective.

Anyway, if anyone used Glider you will remember the harsh sound it made when somebody whispered you so it'd make you jump up, go to the computer and deal with whatever's happened. It also had an option to simply stop the bot completely if a player entered the immediate area around you, so you'd look as though you went AFK to just get a drink or use the toilet and it would carry on as soon as they left.

My question is, can I do this with HB? Maybe in the form of a plug in or an addon that anybody knows about?

I think this would be a great addition to HB for the safe botters who like to be careful. I'm sure people will think what's the point in stopping the bot if anyone is around, "it won't get anything done!"... Well that's just not true because my server is very quiet and I rarely run into other plays while questing, so it really wouldn't slow things down very much. And a "whipser alert" would be great too, just because if a player is next to you and whispers you saying "Hey" and you just carry on botting... You're going to get reported, so a response makes them think it's a real player and it kind of would be as the alert would make me switch to wow and reply "Hey what's up?" back to them.

If you think about it, this would be really great for grinding too which is the easiest way to get banned. If your bot simply stops when there is a player nearby, how can you ever get reported? You can't be reported for looking AFK.

If anyone can help i'd really appreciate it and if not I'd like to hear your thoughts anyway!

BTW: If you're using Selfmade profiles like i do, and there is only 1 player in like 14 Hours, there is no reason to Monitor the bot, because i never get stuck or see another player, develop your own profile and chill out.
Also been Botting for 3 Years, and never got banned because i don't use public profiles.

Damn it I swear I did look! Must have been searching for the wrong things. This looks great do you use it? Also do you think it's possible to stop the bot if players are nearby? Thanks for the help
 
No, i don't need this kind of plugins because i never see a player at my Private spot, nor i get whispered. Only from my Guild. Can't Help at this, sorry.
I Monitored it alot when i was developing my Profile, but in all the Hours i monitored and developed all my stuff (more then like 30-40 Hours) I never got a Single Whisper, and only saw Two Players, who were Leveling at the Ground.

I'm sure this Plugin will fit your Needs :)

i leave my bot running without monitoring it all the time, never gets stuck, never get whispered by other players, but then again i use the badboy addon, even though it dosnt prevent cross-realm whispers, i also use inviteblock to block all kinds of incoming "invites" in case i get any which i never do.

you can use declineAll plugin for blocking invites.
 
I think all the things you are talking about are already in the plugins section.


  • Logmeout - log you out on a lot of triggers (player near your, whisper, player targeting you, ...)
  • ShutUp - whisper
  • Sharp Jump - random jump

just search a little bit

with these plugins and personals profiles you can let your bot run when you are away
 
Just don?t bot if you want to be safe - It?s not a question about you get banned or not.. It?s a question about how and when :)

But yes there are a few options to get it better, such as LogMeOut and ShutUp

But again, don?t bot on anything you arrant are ready to loose it :-)
 
It's kind of annoying that everyone seems to want to put in their own opinion which is just based on how they bot themselves..... let's try and be more constructive! I really do appreciate everyone's replies though. It's just everyone has their own philosophies on botting and it's not just down to a case of when or how you'll get banned, it's just not that simple.

I've taken a look at log me out, which seems really great, but it doesn't seem to be able to just stop your character completely until a player has left your immediate area, like Glider was able to do! That was a really bad bot compared to HB so I must be able to find something similar! :)
 
ZenLulZ the Developer of logmeout tells me that's not possible to do exactly what you want ...

if your read the logmeout thread, you'll see that you are not the first who ask this
 
Damn! I just asked him a question in his thread as well! It's a shame I didn't see your comment first mate :( Thanks a lot for the response though. I'll have a look through and see if i can find any answers, i wonder what the problem is
 
That's cool, careful you'll get loads of people asking for requests and asking questions like me in a minute! :P

Hopefully i'll be able to find out why this isn't possible.... It's strange because if you think about it, it's possibly the safest way to bot there is...

To put it really simply as I see it in my mind.... You're out there in Azeroth running your bot...... If ANY player, Alliance or Horde happen to enter your targettable area, you simply freeze..... Being stood still can't be considered suspicious as it looks as though you've just gone to grab a drink or whatever... and then as soon as they move out of your targettable area, the bot carries on. It would be almost impossible to get banned this way.

It's interesting because Glider was a really crappy bot, but had this capability. Maybe HB is just so much more complex, it's not possible to do such things. I wish i knew haha :)
 
HB is enough complex to be completely human-like when a player is watching you, so it would be an useless feature.
If the bot is encountering an issue (stuck or other), the bot must be disconnected for security reasons, even if there is no player around.

Your idea is difficult to implement, because if I stop the bot in these cases, a mob can fights your bot and it won't attack. So, it will be increase highly the risk you die.

Furthermore, we don't know exactly how a GM can watch you. We can imagine they can watch without be instanced in the game. It won't decrease the risk of a ban.

i started using those addons before i even considered paying for HB and they are doing the job fine since no one from other realms ever invite me or whisper me heh
